US Brig Syren by Rustyj - FINISHED - 1:64

Hi All, I've been digging through my file and I'm putting to gether the pictures for my scratch build of Chucks Model Shipways Syren. The build is in the 1:64 scale. The main wood used was Boxwood, Cherry, Holly and Swiss Pear.

 

 

This log was started back in 2007 and I was bad about taking pictures but here is what I have.

The hull was planked using basswood as I was going to cover it with copper plates.

Hey Rusty!  Be interested where you used the Cherry and Swiss Pear.  I'm assuming you used the Holly for the deck?

The stem is pear as well as the framing for the hatchs.

 

I used some cherry for assorted deck pieces, binnacle, shot racks etc.

Nice job on the headrails.  You even put in the 'dreaded headon shot'.  Nice work.

 

I couldn't scribe those headrails ---- my neurosurgery license had expired.

Funny and I thought doing them was horrible to do back then.

 

Now I want to rip them off and redo them but that ain't gonna happen.

Here was my attempt at using sculpy to create the figurehead. In the first attempt she had a case of Big Hair so I sent her out for a trim and she fit better. Also the carronades made and installed. The barrels were resin cast that I made from a master supplied by Chuck.

Haircut was certainly in order.  Great job on the cannons.

Thanks for rebuilding your log. I was really impressed with your results with the sculpty clay. I am going to have to get some and give it a go. Was there much of a learning curve?

Thanks everyone. As I’m going through the pictures I noticed
that with the three computers I went through some pictures didn’t make it.
 

Geoff, the learning curve with the sculpy is not bad. The
skill to create with it, for me, was another thing altogether.

Well as I said before I have no pictures of the yards and running rigging, or at least I

can't find them so here are the final pictures. If I ever find those pictures I'll add them.
