HMS Warspite by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Academy - 1/350 scale - PLASTIC

Recommended Posts

Very nice, fine detail work there, OC.

Looks great!

Thanks mate,  I did slightly chicken out of making the PE 20mm compete guns though  just to small and fiddly to bend those tiny parts, so i resorted to using the kit plastic ones with just the PE shields.

Did you notice in the "what did you receive" topic that some fellow modelers are acquiring those stereo microscopes? That may be just the ticket for these very small PE parts. Normal magnifying lenses just are not quite powerful enough sometimes.

Like you, I have so far procrastinated on building all the 20mm single guns for my project. A certain amount of dread in building so many and so small, tedious.

bunny1954 ( ;) ) beat me to it, but you might consider adding a pair of stronger eyes to your own. It will certainly ease the headaches and the pressure on your eyeballs. I know it did for me! I don't know how Greg and you do it, but my eyes would be bursting by now ...

Cheers

They would be small at that scale OC; but to me the driver would be the quality of the kit part.  If it holds definition and shows the correct detail, stay with it; otherwise... :)

cheers

OC,

If you want to show off with your details, you'll need to improve on your picture quality. At least macro ;) I can't take my eyes out, I can only add a layer to them ... ;) You must have very sensitive fingers :P:o;)

A bit more time on the bench(table) today inbetween wrapping presents,  I managed to put a few coats of paint on the 20mm Tub, I started with light greay on the inside followed by the outside, then a coat of black on the machine gun then............she was glued into position followed by a light touch up with top coat.

A couple of pics again slightly oof due to the cam phone but I think it gives an idea.

Two more pics folks - I didn't like the first attempts above so despite it being night time here, I took the ole girl into the kitchen(more light there)  and took a couple of shots at a slightly further distance as I was to close with the others.

Here they are -

That rear 20mm tub is on the stern she never had one on the bow, but get where you are coming from.

More updates folks this time on the two hull side rear deck 20mm Tubs,  these are slightly different as they both have a lower rim on the front sections, this was done using a fine file and sanding stick(very carefully as the resin is very thin)   next  I worked on building two PE boxes by the same method as before, these where glued in place along with a door each, next was a thin rim that I made from some wast PE strip.

Here are a couple of pics showing the pre painting stage with the two Tubs.

Next was to give both Tubs a couple of coats of light grey, of note is the lack of 20mm machine guns as they were not carried in certain Tubs during D Day, I would imagine this was due to the channel having UK and American air superiority over those areas, hence less need of fire cover.

Here is a pic showing the light grey paint finish on the Tubs.

Looks really nice, but I know next to nothing about cameras.

Looks like quite a lens on it.

Yep  300mm  quite average size these days but the camera helps having 24mp.

Hi OC

Nice camera.

I have just purchased a new one myself, Canon 7D Mark ii with a EF 100mm f2.8 L  Macro IS USM lens.

The only thing is cannot download the photos to my computer, it will start but then it stops about half way through, and that is using the Canon software that came with it..

The comp has 8gb ram and still got 680gb space left on the hard drive.

Denis.
