  1. Thanks I have seen this video-- I am having great difficulty in locating silkspan in the UK--- so if anyone knows where to get some I'd be greatly obliged .
  2. I forgot to say-- I'm planning to do a mix of furled and set sails-- set the main, fore course and one of the bow sails, (slightly raised from fully down) The spanker full. And all the rest furled--- well that's the intention....lets see how it works out in practice 🤣 I just wanted to do something different as my last build had no sails (Cheerful) and my Bounty has full sails set.
  3. I've just finished the standing rigging and never even noticed the cannon size issue on the plans when I was doing them🤪 I used the kits barrels but used the wooden carriage kits from Chris Watton's 'Victory model's instead of the cast ones...
  4. Hi thanks for taking time out to respond. @GrandpaPhil I have read that book and has given me some good thoughts on how to proceed. And yes @JerryTodd I think I could use my Vanguard plans as a basis for a simplified square rigged R/C boat. The hull would have lots of room for the radio and linkage. I would just have to work out how to break her down for transit and make her look detailed but not---and relatively bomb proof for lifting and bumping into other boats and things! LOl so watch this forum-- I plan to start around October-- a winter project...
  5. Hi I am struggling to find an R/C kit of a Napoleonic warship, don't mind if it has an electric motor or 100% sail--- any suggestions? I have never built an actual 'floating' model before just thought it would be fun to try and actually sail it Thanks
  6. I'm loving the copper plating. The style and application makes it looks so strong, industrial, purposeful---- a great look
  7. One of my favourite planes, in my youth used to see a few flying around from RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset
  8. Just been doing a little research, most leaf is bright 24k.but the 18k less common but darker and is prone to tarnish..very un gold like but might be worth a look...let it darken till your happy then lacquer it??? Just guessing
  9. Been following this thread with interest, my next build will be Sovereign of the Sea-- lots of gold which I assume was gilt? I was thinking of using actual gold leaf-- Sorry to jump in.. Ian
  10. Sorry-- The water is not deep enough I can still see the sub !! LOL --- Love it --just bitter and twisted..
  11. I just love the way you coloured the funnel--- so realistic-- its touches like that which elevate into the very special category
  12. Its really coming along, I'm enjoying watching it grow
  13. really loving this unusual subject matter build---@GrandpaPhil your doing her great justice --I'd so like to make it in wood....
  14. Just bought the hardback copy--£4.99 including postage(Amazon UK)--- bargain I still cant believe how over looked this ship is with the kit companies-- wood or plastic...
  15. I have a picture somewhere of being very young and my parents showing me her being towed up the river to the dock on her pontoon. A rusty hulk
  16. Thanks, I shall hunt the book down
  17. wow--- I have never thought of doing a model like this-- very inspiring---- I shall follow on for the ride
  18. I've had one of these for a while..well worth all the fuss of you trying to obtain one..don't give up! My Vangaurd build was so much more manageable in the rig. Especially after doing the hull (which was super straight).being able to swing it 360deg for copper plating.
  19. CMB. Are always so responsive and helpful..can never praise them enough...
  20. Most of the garden centres around here in the UK sell it--- It is stuck down to stop slugs--- they wont slide/wriggle over copper...
  21. Thanks, I have just looked through this build--wow lots of good points and things for me to take inspiration from..
  22. That would look quite smart--- tempted to do this rather than what I imagined doing a straight around the sprit and bow..
  23. I have got to a point on my HMS Vangaurd where I need to attach the Bow sprit but I cant find how the ropes should go? I cant see anything on the plans I even looked in my 'Rigging period ships' by Len Petersson and he skips over it.. Also any tips on the bindings for the bow sprit and masts?
  24. I too had my very first flight in a Chipmunk, The Air Experience flight at Filton Bristol back in 1975-- definitely going to get this kit--not sure it will be a good as build as your excellent one..
