Hello mates!

A little progress. I made the gunwales, and some work in the "cockpit".

But first of all i want to mention that i recived some fittings from Syren Ship Model Company, thank you @Chuck for your fittings and rope, they are very fine made, and i hope i'll be able to use them properly. I'll be buying more for sure.

And here are some pictures of my model. The gunwales are made from chilean Rauli, an excellent wood from Chile. Here you can find it as mouldings for carpentry.

Also y made and installed the tiller. Still missing something on the tip, i have to investigate a little more. I hope you like it.

Still some finishing to do. Next will make some belayings and hull fittings. I'm also designing the deck furniture.

Excelent work as usual. I like the arrengment of the deck. 

I'm starting the layout of mine and i'm trying to figure out something nice and historical accurated. 

What do you think about the sistem of the anchors?  I mean there is not a capstan, or anything to man the anchors so, how did the Swift load the anchors? I don't know.

Yes, i'm sure this pine is related to the araucarias that you have seen in Chile, although this species is brazilian, from the south, a much colder place than the rest of Brazil, so the wood is harder, similar to the chilean environment where the araucarias are found.

As for my model, i made some progress. Installed the thiller, made the nameplate, i made it from boxwood (buxus sempervirens). It is the first time i did it so i don't know about the resault. I hope you like it!!

Now i'm working on the taffrail, gunwale, and some deck furniture. That will come shortly, i promise.

The wood i'm using on the planking, hull and deck, is a wood that is locally named "pino Brasil", it's real name is Araucaria angustifolia, a very nice pine, that allow a nice finishing. 

After finishing the nailing i stained it, the black part is shoe staining ink, and the rest is just wood staining products.

Planking. 

Hello shipmates!

Last year i started this new build. I decided to give the old Artesania Latina's Swift Pilot boat, a different look. I find this little schooner a very beautiful ship.

When i started on shipmodeling, i did't have the opportunity to start with kits, so this kit it would have been the perfect kick start, but it didn't happened.

So, 20 years later, i gave my self a second chance, and with the plans, i decided to give it a try, giving it a different look, as the manufacturers gave it.

Unfortunatly we are not talking about a ship that it existed in the real life, so what you will see here is just a mix from differents ship of the era and the time, there is not a theorical basis to follow, i hope to reach a good port.

But, enough talking, lets make same sawdust!! 

I'm posting some pictures from the first steps, up to today, and i'll keep reports from now on.

I've been told that the model has an old look, just like if it was an old museum model, with a lot of stories to tell. I like what i have achieved in that sense. 

There is no robot work in here, that's why those irregularities. And as you said, they give an "old" look to the model, wich i like a lot.

Bruce, i really don't know what's next. I started a Swift (pilot boat based on Artesania Latina's plans), but it's just a small project. 

So i haven't decided still what comes after LC !! ☹️

Inspiration will make the choice!! 

Mark, thank you for your comments about the cross section. When people see the clinker planking always ask how these ships where built. So, now i can explain it with a model. And that is the essence of the arsenal models. So, i'm happy i made that choice.

I'm glad you like the figures, i like the effect they give to a model.

Excelent deck planking. Wich wood did you use? 

Be carefull with installing the boat before setting the guns hooks (for their rigging), because there will be a lot of trouble getting the guns on place once the boat is already on its cradle. You woun't have enough room to work.

Hello my dear collegues!

I have recently finished my Le Coureur. It's been a long way, but every journey has its end.

I can only say this building  was a real pleasure. 

Thanks to all those who walked with me in this journey. 

I'm posting these pictures, wich are the last i took last weekend. 

I hope you like them.  I decided to add a representation of the main frame, showing the climker planking on one side. And Capt. Rosily and his crew are already on board.

This project is completed! Hope to see you in my future builds!

Hello shipmates!

After the weekend i can say that i almsot finish the LC.

There are a few things to finish and i'm done. Flags, finishing some belaying, and of course, figures and case.

Hope you like it. I finished it late night yesterday, so better pictures will come later, on daylight.

General views, and of course, we had the visit of Capt. Rosily (still without his uniform ), but he seems to be satisfied.

The errors i'm talking about, in the Arsenal mode, are errors that make your work, look a little naif.

If the adjustements in Wood joining are not almost perfect (as example), it dosen't look acceptable, or deetails in general, everything must look as clean as possible, otherwise you won't be succesfull. The sense of sclae is essential, and in those terms, i did a lot of mistakes. Hope for next models, those deetails will be better treated.

As for the clinker, it's a little challenging when you never did it before, but once you find out the technics available in ship modelling you find out a very nice way to do it. I followed the Frolich's book, in the chapter dedicated to LC.

In the next days i'll be posting new picutres of the model. I hope to be finishing it next week.

Hello!

It's been a long time since i posted the last time. Actually it was in the old fórum.

In these last years i'm been building the lougre Le Coureur. It has been my first Arsenal model, so it took a lot of mistakes, and time to figure out how to keep doing it.

One of the first "issues" to resolve was the clinker built planking, wich it came out how you see it in the pictures. Then, every step was taken very carefully, triyng to keep as "arsenal" as posible. I even had to remove the white paint on the hull, because i didn't like the effect achieved.

Fortunatly, the Boudriot gives every explenation of what you need, and thanks to Mr. Delacroix, and the guys on his fórum, i could find a lot of answers too.

And of course here too! That's why i'm presenting you this model, wich some of you may remember from the old fórum, and for those that are knowing it for the first time, i hope you like it.

Today my LC it is about to get finished, so i post picutres in chronological order to undrstand how the construction was made. And i'll be happy to keep you informed, if you are interested of course, of the finishing of this project.

Yes, it's Le Curieux, I didn't mention it because I thought was Le Cygne.

The modelers mentions a plan of Le Courieux, but its incomplete, and the figurehead is missing. Anyway, he managed to find out how was it, and he built it.

You know, there is another Boudriot''s book you may be interested in.

Modeles Historiques au Musee de la Marine Vol.1. It has a chapter that shows a brig, named L'Esperance. Boudriot explains that this brig was made according to Pastel-Sane drawings, because about 60 brigs were built with this plans, from late 1700's century, up to 1820's.

This brig has a beautiful eagle as figurehead.
