  1. Looking very good! You did well with the stern gallery castings. Sometimes such castings provided in kits look a little clunky, but I think the bronze color here and the warm wood tones complement each other nicely.
  2. We can't stay mad at our fur babies forever, can we?
  3. It does look like a wonderful way to see some country!
  4. I know that some of the plastic gurus have jigs for aligning everything, but I just do it by eye. One gear is canted slightly farther forward than the other, but I think I got the angle between the struts more or less correct. She sits with wings level, which is a good sign.
  5. Sorry to hear about the ship burn-out, but trains are a very enjoyable alternative! Hope you find some buyers soon!
  6. Model builder's wife, upon viewing [insert name of junk item here]: "I think this needs to go (in the trash / to Goodwill)." Model builder: "But that could come in handy for a model some day!"
  7. Here's what I've managed to get done today. First, both ailerons are complete. And I also managed to get one landing gear done, along with its doors (16 parts). Now of course I have to do the whole landing gear assembly process one more time. 😵‍💫
  8. Don has nailed it -- the tackles would have been stowed when the ship wasn't in action. Also bear in mind that lots of stuff on a ship model is 'optional' to some degree -- if you wish to display a tidy deck sans tackles and rope coils, then by all means do so.
  9. Just catching up on your project -- that's some exceptionally skilled craftsmanship on display!
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. As the Germans would say, that is Spitzenklasse!
  12. Only some very small progress to show. These are the cast resin wheels. They needed some washing to remove releasing agent. I then used the Real Color markers to paint them. It's hard to see in this photo, but the tires are painted in 'rubber black' while the hubs are painted in RLM dark gray. These are definitely a step up from the paper wheels on the E-4. I need to make a run to Hobby Lobby to get some music wire for the landing gear -- the stuff I presently have on hand is either too thick or too thin for the job.
  13. My work area is complete chaos in comparison -- one of those "it's a mess, but I know where everything is" kind of set-ups! 😂
  14. Welcome aboard, Jackson! You might have to dig around with the help of our search function, but we have had similar discussions many times in the past. For me personally, I build for several reasons: I love military history. Conflict seems to simultaneously bring out the best and worst of human behavior and is therefore endlessly fascinating. I have always enjoyed putting things together, especially miniatures, ever since I was a kid. I simply like the looks of finished models, especially ones that draw the viewer in to examine the myriad details. I build primarily in card, so I kind of enjoy working with a particularly niche medium in an already niche hobby. Model building is relaxing -- except when it isn't (modelers will know what I mean by this). Good luck with your research!
  15. Okay! Looking forward to seeing your project.
  16. Welcome aboard!
  17. Work progresses. I decided to work on some various fuselage bits rather than stick dogmatically to the numbered construction sequence. First, I killed some white spots on the lower fuselage. Then I made and installed the exhaust stubs (ugh . . . a real chore). And added the exhaust fairings. I learned afterward that the forward opening on each one should be rectangular, not round, but there were no fold indicators on the parts. 😒 Finally, the tropicalized air intake. That's it for now!
