Hi Keith @KeithAug I get boxwood strips from originalmarquetry.co.uk under lines and stringing and the ebony came from exotichardwoodsukltd.com they do a one kilo bag of offcuts under ebony in blocks and squares that had some huge pieces in it, originalmarquetry isn't cheap but send stuff really quickly, I ordered on Tuesday and it arrived today. Exotic hardwoods have some awesome stuff and you could spend a fortune if not careful. Peruse both sites we'll worth it. Hope that helps Regards Paul

Hi don As kurt said above those are extras in case you make a mess, in my opinion the longboat is quite a difficult model and I wouldn't recommend as a first model, you might want to look at something a bit easier first to cut your teeth on, there are quite a few logs on this site also that can help you if you search longboat regards Paul

I managed to fit in some work on the Sirius, added the hooks and messenger rollers in the bow, and the first couple of beams with the cathead attached underneath You can just see the top of the roller at the front also my new hawser cable (nine strands laid right handed or with the sun into three ropes three strands in each then the three ropes laid left handed or against the sun into cable) Also did a little work on the cheerful, needs a bit of cleaning up! Unfortunately I have run out of boxwood strips and have ordered some more so doing things in a different order slightly to chucks instructions while I await delivery Regards Paul

my wife bought me the cheerful cutter from chuck for my 60th birthday the week before last, so now in a quandary which boat to build so I'm going to try and do both at the same time, i wont start a separate log for the cheerful as there are many on here already but might drop a few photos in here as i go along so heres the first couple, i used copper for the keel joint instead o black as chuck suggests, i just like it showing up like it does i was also unsure of whether i was going to paint or not so lined the forward gunport with boxwood 0.5 mm thick, then after discussion with the wife i painted to follow chucks layout and this is where I'm up to currently

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
