  1. Terminator drill stand got its first outing as well, I made a small jig to drill the ends of the supporters in the same spot
  2. Fabricated Square bolts for the channel supporters from some brass nails, filed to square and flat in the mini vice
  3. 2 chains fitted on the main channel to work out the lengths to make the rest of the chains and where they line up on the Hull
  4. 2 days in the shipyard and a lot achieved for a change Port lids have hinges, channel supporters fabricated and attached on mizzen, dry fitted on main ready for painting
  5. Awesome work Ed, I don't know how you are keeping track of all those lines Regards Paul
  6. Work on the belfry has continued, not my finest piece of work and needs a lot of clean up, made the bell from the end of a brass cannon from a previous model Regards Paul
  7. Called in at the local auction place last week and came across these, just had to bid Two perfect condition engineers vices, my humble Proxxon drill stand has just gone terminator Regards Paul
  8. Nice work Jason, I think you are correct that all the stanchions and brakes were removeable when the capstan was in use Regards Paul
  9. Thanks Ed, I have another piece of Holly strips on the go to experiment on, hopefully done exactly the same as the planking Meanwhile as its -2 outside in the garage I managed to persuade the boss to allow me to bring the rope rocket inside to do some more practise on the rope making This is with the dmc ecru no 40 thread supplied by chuck with the rocket Regards Paul
  10. I have also started turning the legs for the belfry, according to my plans they are only 2 ft.(12mm) High, 6"(3mm) wide at the base, I can't quite get the taper yet but I have got the shape down from the plan, I also scraped around the edge of the roof, could only manage one line though in the space. Regards Paul
  11. Hi Jim @Jimt The scraper is just a hacksaw blade trimmed to different shapes with another saw and files where necessary, I even have the ends trimmed for doing a bead in awkward places Regards Paul
  12. Beautiful, I might have to try a larger scale small boat next, although the wife might not be to happy 😁 That brass work looks fantastic, are you leaving as brass colour or will it be blackened Regards Paul
  13. And or video maybe, for us foreigners lol Regards Paul
  14. Ebony has been polished down to 5000 grit sandpaper and second coat of sealer added Regards Paul
  15. Second plank experiment, Holly strips, titebond dark glue with 3b pencil highlights, two flats of sanding sealer flatted between, so far no raising of the lines Also at the bottom first and second attempt at belfry roof in ebony and one coat of sanding sealer Thanks Paul
  16. Hi Phil Great effort, if you have any harder wood like box or any fruit wood you will get a much smoother finish, lime is to soft for this kind o work really, but still a great first carving Regards Paul
  17. Sometimes I think we make everything to complicated, you can't beat chucks rope rocket for ease and simplicity and it makes some good looking rope after a bit of practice and experimentation, I used to have cones and travellers etc and it all gets a bit fiddly Regards Paul
  18. I agree with Mark open a log in shore leave, I would certainly like to see the rest of this build Regards Paul
  19. Thanks Kurt but it was the small engraver I was asking about, just ordered one on amazon to check out thanks Michael Regards Paul
  20. Hi Michael I believe but could be wrong that the tackle for the gunport ran along the beams above like the picture you show from the victory, ports on the quarterdeck and forecastle didn't usually have ports and were open as was the deck, I'm not sure that a sideways rove tackle as you show and on the picture/gun station above is correct, tackles usually pulled in a straight line not around a corner unless with a sheath Regards Paul
