  1. thanks druxey, I will try that, i have been trying to do them as one whole piece pretty much regards Paul
  2. I would wholeheartedly agree with chuck and have stated this on a number of other logs that this is not a beginners model, the planning and thickness of the sanded frames make this a very delicate model as Chuck suggested above Good luck with your build and log Regards Paul
  3. also continued with some planking and the counter and transom on the cheerful then had a little accident and dropped the hull which caught the table and snapped of the bottom of the counter piece and cracked the upper planking at the rear, which I am now going to have to replace Regards Paul
  4. still struggling with gallery windows so have returned to the 26 foot cutter, last knees added and davit new anchor and messenger rope can be seen below the launch and in next picture Regards Paul
  5. beautiful work albert regards Paul
  6. Hi Chris May I suggest you ask chuck himself or send him a pm he would probably be the best one to ask as he makes them Regards Paul
  7. Hi Don Kurt and I have also answered your question re the extra parts on james longboat log where you posted the question previously Hope that helps Regards Paul
  8. Hi Keith @KeithAug I get boxwood strips from originalmarquetry.co.uk under lines and stringing and the ebony came from exotichardwoodsukltd.com they do a one kilo bag of offcuts under ebony in blocks and squares that had some huge pieces in it, originalmarquetry isn't cheap but send stuff really quickly, I ordered on Tuesday and it arrived today. Exotic hardwoods have some awesome stuff and you could spend a fortune if not careful. Peruse both sites we'll worth it. Hope that helps Regards Paul
  9. Hi don As kurt said above those are extras in case you make a mess, in my opinion the longboat is quite a difficult model and I wouldn't recommend as a first model, you might want to look at something a bit easier first to cut your teeth on, there are quite a few logs on this site also that can help you if you search longboat regards Paul
  10. I managed to fit in some work on the Sirius, added the hooks and messenger rollers in the bow, and the first couple of beams with the cathead attached underneath You can just see the top of the roller at the front also my new hawser cable (nine strands laid right handed or with the sun into three ropes three strands in each then the three ropes laid left handed or against the sun into cable) Also did a little work on the cheerful, needs a bit of cleaning up! Unfortunately I have run out of boxwood strips and have ordered some more so doing things in a different order slightly to chucks instructions while I await delivery Regards Paul
  11. lovely work Dan, those superstructures look like wood in the pictures regards Paul
  12. Let's hope he can spell Trafalgar correctly too or it might not get very far, sorry couldn't resist Regards Paul
  13. HI Keith Yes I agree a little, been doing both for just over a week now and I find I actually only work on one and leave the other, I keep thinking 'ah while that's drying' I will do something on the other but it just doesn't happen Regards Paul
  14. Hi Patrick Can I ask where you got the mitre block you showed in an earlier picture Thanks Paul 0220.jpg.url
  15. It doesn't matter how quick you work mark to get lovely tight joints like that, great work Regards Paul
  16. my wife bought me the cheerful cutter from chuck for my 60th birthday the week before last, so now in a quandary which boat to build so I'm going to try and do both at the same time, i wont start a separate log for the cheerful as there are many on here already but might drop a few photos in here as i go along so heres the first couple, i used copper for the keel joint instead o black as chuck suggests, i just like it showing up like it does i was also unsure of whether i was going to paint or not so lined the forward gunport with boxwood 0.5 mm thick, then after discussion with the wife i painted to follow chucks layout and this is where I'm up to currently
