Great looking deck Popeye. I see that you follow a rule I always like. When caulking a deck try to make it subdued so that it does not stand out and detract from the beauty of the planking and the wood used. David B

It was the bilge area I was talking about. Herreschoft hulls were nice but you had to be very good at your craft to build them. David B

Your hull looks great. It has that unique look that I like. I still think planking that hull must have been trouble. David B

I would go with Russ stick with 12" for your planking. The Alert makes into a lovely model. Are you going to use the AOS series to help you build it? David B -

Omega, I know several miniaturized who have used Holly to simulate what you are doing. The wood is durable and flexes very nicely. David B

Paul my advice would be to stay at the original scale. Your kit is not very accurate but if you do not mind doing a bit of kit bashing and want to practice your skills go for it. Remember you are not in a contest. This for you to have fun and enjoyment. David B

Removing paint
dgbot replied to Don Quixote's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
Testors has an enamel paint remover. You can also use a product called Stripeeze. This stuff gets brushed on and then let sit. It will remove almost anything. Then use a little mineral spirits to clean up. For nooks and crannies you need a thinner paint than Testors enamel. Try Tamiya acrylics. David B

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
