  1. I am a fan of painting my models. I start with a coat of sealer to insure even coverage then a primer if needed then airbrush the colors needed. My Latham has paint hull and masts etc. Fishing Schooners were identified by their colors from a distance. The real vessels were always painted or had other protection from the elements. This is a judgement call and it would depend on what you are building and what you are trying to show. David B
  2. I invested in a Badger 360 dual action airbrush with a compressor. I found it superior to rattle cans for ease of use and control of the spray. I started out years ago with a Paashe single action H. I have always had trouble with cans. David B
  3. Ray you did nice job on your anchors but you forgot to blacken your rings or are you leaving them that color. David B
  4. Looking good Andrew and you are working with the old adage "You never have enough clamps." David B
  5. My first attempt came out on the sloppy side plus I was able to get some photo paper to use. I also had to get a new printer wireless this time and I was on the phone with tech support to get it running properly. But I am happy with the quality of the printing and not having to sit, next to it with a cable. The only drawback is it uses a tricolor ink cartridge and they are not cheap. I took this photo with my smartphone as my camera needs batteries. David B.
  6. The hanging a weight to line that you make is to not stretch it but cause the fibers to set into each other. David B
  7. What brand of paint do you use and the type of airbrush? I am curious because of the scale you are working in. David B
  8. Magnifique Danny wonderful do over and quite a bit of outside the box thinking as well as steady hands. David B
  9. Before you paint the hull I would advise sealing the hull. The Mahogany planks may absorb the paint requiring several coats of paint. This you do not want. David B
  10. I echo the above sentiments. May your mother in law feel better soon. David B
  11. I have seen many miniatures over the years and can happily say that you are an artist. I would love to see your model at Manitowoc for the next show. Beautiful and fantastic. David B
  12. The entire time I was in Iowa City I was dreaming about BBQ spare ribs and sloppy joes. David B
  13. Don, I bought my Starrett straight edge 12" rule for almost nothing on EBay just look and be patient. David B
