Moab

Guys and gals. Call me crazy and get angry with me but except for the power tools (of which I've only purchased one) I find Micromark "tools" very ordinary in quality and

often overpriced.

It also bothers me when they rip off the tools that others have designed and marketed but I know  other companies do this. Many suppliers are small cottage companies and supporting them may keep them in business which often benefits us.

That said I still purchase many products from them and have usually been satisfied. It's hard to beat their extensive selection of items I can't find anywhere else.

I hope this doesn't get me banned from this site...Moab

Dave; I checked the copyright and the initial pages and there's no reference to the 1991 book. The publisher is Seaforth...Moab

Pavel; I have the model 800 and I've been very happy with it although I don't know if they still manufacture it.  One thing I like is that it's cordless!

I recently purchased this book on Amazon. The contents may be of little interest and very basic to the "old salt scratch builders" on this forum. The book clearly describes the steps required to build a ship of the line in the late 18th to the early 19th century. It does this in both words and visuals. The copyright date for the book is 2017.

The August 2018 issue of WoddenBoat has an interesting article about Malcolm Darch. It's a ten page overview of his early life through his modeling career. The depth of his detailing (e.g. using dovetail joinery in construction of deck houses) is amazing...Moab

In a prior life (when I had a large shop) I had a Hegner scroll saw. In my current condo life not so much. I'm doing my fine cutting with a small fret saw I used it in my jewelry making days. 

I came across a saw I've never seen while surfing the web. It's pricey ($58 - 140) depending on which model is purchased. Does anyone have any info on this saw? ....Moab/Allan

Joss; the above solutions should help a great deal.  I agree that the sliding table would help  but you should be able to use the saw correctly without one.

Not sure how you’re using the saw but using both the miter and the fence at the same time can cause serious kickback if there isn’t proper clearance between the fence and the blade.

Make sure the fence is equal distance at the front of table and the rear using the left miter slot as the guide. Also check      

thr distance from the front and back of the blade to the fence. They should be equal. If the measurement at the back is les than the front this may cause burn marks on the wood  or serious kickback. I’m sure someone can explain this better than me.

You may want to consider using a push-stick when ripping.

Also, I always use a face mask and hearing protection.

Not sure if you hook-up a vacuum to the dust port. This MAY reduce blade clogging.

There are several good books available that cover table saw basics and safety. There may also be some videos available. I’d also check utube.

I’ve never heard of putting a ruler on the fence and it scares the hell out of me.
