  How did you support the multiple decks?

I used card stock for my hinges.  A pounce wheel works wonders for dimpling the strapping.

Only if you want to have the studding sails.

It’s a great reference book.  Like I said before, I’m going to build mine from it.

 I finished the second entry port.  In my opinion it came out better than the first.

It’s still not perfect, but I’m happy with it.  I’m getting better.

The book “The Search For Speed Under Sail” by Howard I Chapelle has plans for a British style 12 lb Carronade Carriage on the plates with the rigging plan for the Prince de Neufchatel.

That’s what I used to make mine.

I’m not big on power tools, because it’s easy for things to go really bad, really quick if you make a mistake, but a Dremel can be useful.

The second entry port is in work.  I made the first side piece.

Starboard entry port is dry fitted!

 I also sanded the top smooth.

I finished an entry port, it just requires trimming and painting.

I’m making steady progress on Victory.  I’ll start Triton when I finish it.

I came to the conclusion that the cutwater has to come off and be replaced.  The profile of the one from the kit doesn’t match the profile of the one from the AOTS which has the plans that I’m using.  I’ll make a card template to mark off my cuts on the model (to be made with a coping saw) and the piece of basswood that I will be making the replacement from.

I’m going to do that after I finish the entry ports (I hate leaving stuff unfinished), because I need to do that before I go too much further so I don’t damage all the rest of my work.

I’ll probably make the head at the same time (which is always a good challenge) so I can paint it when I start doing touch ups on the rest of the hull.

If you’re going to paint your model, basswood (or lime wood if you’re from Europe) works wonderfully for cheap planking material.

If you’re from the US, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Lowe’s and Home Depot all carry basswood in the hobby section.

Yes, please start build logs, even if you’re not sure the build will be finished.

If you run into problems, there is lots of experience here and everyone here is very helpful.

Sanding it between coats hides the wood grain.

I should, and probably will on my next build.

Until it covers well is my advice.
