    These look very interesting, I may have overlooked it, is the scale 1:64? I have always admired the Amati Fifie you designed. I may need to relocate to the UK to save on shipping 😂

    I’m by no means a planking expert, but you’ll need to do some shaping with the plank to achieve the curves that you are looking for. There are several different ways to do this: some taper the plank and then bend the plank in a jig and iron it, some soak the plank fit it to the bulkhead and then either let it dry or heat it with a heat gun, I’ve seen people soak the plank and then let it dry in a jig off the model. There are a lot of different ways. I’m starting to have success using the edge bending method. Even from the videos I had a few questions that took me a little while to figure out. Such as using the tick strips with the marked hull to check your progress.

    Do I see two Sharpie Schooners in there? I enjoyed building that one a lot. i’m looking forward to watching you get to these (once you finish your current projects of course 😉).

    I think the 2nd edition of the laser etched deck looks nicer than the first (from forum pictures at least). I purchased a etched deck for my Alert and I think it looks really nice. If you are at all considering the laser etched deck I would consider contacting Chris and seeing if you can purchase a second edition. You can see the differences here:

    Wow, that is quite the collection! (Don’t be scared of planking, with that many ships you have plenty of practice 😂)

    That Wasa battle station in the advertisement is an interesting one that I learned of recently as well. Are any of the parts labeled in the directions? Maybe that would give a clue.

    Were you ever able to make any progress on this kit? I'm quite interested in building a battle station eventually and this look like an interesting option.

    Out of curiosity is the extra wood glue needed at that point? After you’ve glued the plank at a set interval it seems like that should be enough?

    These last few planks might take me a little while so I decided to do an update showing my planking to date. I am going to finish one side (4 left) before doing the remaining 5 on the other side. I tried to keep the planking somewhat even on both side but somewhere along the way I got a little off. I’m curious how smooth does this first layer have to be before I do the second planking (every dip filled)? I’ve done some sanding and filling as I go but it’s not perfect. Don’t look too closely or you’ll notice me breaking the stern post tops as I go (I think according to the plans then get trimmed soon and it’s not a big deal, fingers crossed).

    Very nice! I love the diorama look as well; that’s another thing that looks like a fun addition (making little, or big, dioramas).

    Begone temptation! Ha, yeah I really do. I have this dream of building an awesome A-10, but I need to finish my ship first... and then probably line up a practice plane. Really airbrushes are putting my off mainly because I don’t know that I have the time to properly set it up and clean it right now (young kids so modeling time is in small periods usually).

    Thanks, I have some coming my way. It really seems to work well for me planking, trying to figure out how to attach clamps was getting to be a Herculean effort.

    I haven’t tried to cut tubing (and this is wasteful) but you might be able to stick a small cheap dowel in the tubing to prevent the squishing.

    Thanks! I think I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have about 5 planks on each side left and edge bending is finally starting to come together for me 🙂. I want to re-measure my taper points before but hopefully I’ll have an update with a few pictures up soon. I think I’m moving over to the CA “darkside,” does anyone have a gel recommendation? I’ve been using Loctite gel, but I’m curious if there are better options.

    Was this built or unbuilt (simply curious for my own knowledge)? Built would definitely get into that “very large” category. I suppose some unbuilt kits boxes could qualify as well though.

    after I wrote the below it seemed confusing when I re-read it, but hopefully it makes some sense. When you go to actually send a payment there are two options. The payment is either send for the purchase of goods/services or sending money as a gift. A goods/service payment costs the recipient of the funds ~3%, but it protects the purchase to a certain extent. A gift payment costs the sender ~3% but there is no protection on the payment (it’s a gift with no expectations). There is sometimes a desire for a seller to save that 3%, but in my opinion it makes the seller look risky (and simply add the 3% into your price if you care). From my experience, unless it’s going to Alaska/Hawaii or is very large/heavy the price doesn’t really fluctuate with the continental US. You could pick a zip code on the other side of the country and use it as a ballpark that should be close enough (or try several and see if it varies).

    I determine the size box something needs and the total weight of the package. With this you can estimate postage on the USPS website (or shipper of choice). For international shipments you simply calculate once a buyer has expressed interest (and if your comfortable shipping to the location). I use PayPal and would always expect payment before shipping an item. I would be very suspect of anyone wanted me to ship an item prior to payment. I would recommend always using goods and services as the payment type on PayPal. I also prefer to list prices including shipping (but that’s a personal preference). I also usually look at a users post history on whatever platform I’m selling if possible to minimize my risk. Good luck!
