Nils, It's a great ship, and you certainly do her justice, but you can't convince me she is just 1:64 scale ... she looks ENORMOUS

A rather mind boggling dillema, Adrieke. You could also take some from the top AND the bottom ... Any pictures on the internet which might help ...? How is your German: http://www.gorchfock.de/forum/index.php?sid=ccd5236c499fba1e070786846b91716c or http://www.haz.de/var/storage/images/haz/nachrichten/politik/deutschland-welt/cdu-und-spd-fuer-verbleib-der-gorch-fock-in-der-bundeswehr/11132498-1-ger-DE/CDU-und-SPD-fuer-Verbleib-der-Gorch-Fock-in-der-Bundeswehr_ArtikelQuer.jpg

Sam, The key question is: 'Is she still your Admiral ...???' I know Mark enjoys the love of his life to the fullest, and I for one cannot imagine them having any static, even towards his planking, and sanding of this beauty of a build of his. Mark, I would suggest a mixing of the two. Some yard work, followed by some planking ... it won't go fast, though it will move for'ard ... besides, as a good Dutch saying goes: You'll combine the usefull with the pleasurable. ... Another option is to let the yard go crazy ... not an option I presume... ??

That's what we call 'a mobile unit' Bob. I'd rather be near at hand by the admiral ... I like a face to face communication, else there is always some form of static ... besides, a surprise visit from the admiral to the workshop can be very stimulating ...

That goes for your entire build ... at least to me!!!

I see I'm not the only one that's rattling ... wounderful work mate ... you must be runnin' like a train at full speed ... astonishing the amount of work you show ... I recon the admiral's spring cleaning is on hold ... I would expect some contrast, though, for it is all very white-ish ...

A very belated happy birthday, maybe I should do it in advance ... you're still young at hart!!! Being 18 yrs old, you'll manage mate!!! See you soon back at the bench

Dan, Lucky your vulture wasn't in a bottle !!! Sorry to hear about Ziggy ... You probably need to grow eyes in the back of your head ... The problem with pets is they can behave like the pest ... and need a forgiving owner - which can be hard to be sometimes. Glad everything is alright with Vulture, and the pets!
-
Wel sailor ... you finally got them silent ... Mark and Augie ... doesn't happen that often ... I do have to admit that you have given a tremendous, stunning performance of prowes and creativity ... Sometimes mind boggling ... other times nerve wrecking ... and the end is - lucky us - not jet in sight Keep on going mate!!!

Mark, I saw and sand in the garage, and have taken posession of the dinner table whilst the Admiral can't eat at it ... else I have to move to one of my desks, which at present are rather completely cluttered ... The cannon I'm working on now isn't very big (5"). Currently waiting for solder utilities. Besides ... the garage is somewhat 'loaded' if not 'over loaded' ... so many things still to do ...

Kees, The weathering with paint is done with salt as well. Quite a few instruction movies on YouTube for model cars, railway wagons, etc. Maybe for a next time, though I like this solution better. Rersult is marvelous

Anything to keep the admiral happy!!! Maybe an octagonal form might take her fancy, and give you another challenge ... some ivory-ish inlay work ... some carving ... I can see you do it ! I admire your perseverance with the ebony. All the measures you take to keep your tools in shape, and you workspace, and model 'spic and span' ...recommendable at least!!!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
