  1. GG, I`m not sure if I understand what you mean, I presume you only have two double-sheave blocks and would like to tackle these correctly. Here is an enclosed little handscetch showing in detail how you can do it...... You may have to strop the blocks accordingly. Watch for the position of the sheave holes Nils
  2. Hi GG, I do`nt know if this is historicly wise correct, but this is how I did it (Boat lashing) Hope it can be of help to you, if you like.... Nils
  3. Thank you Michael, in answer to your question....., I have just let the builds (not all were completely finished), pass my mind, and I count 13 ships plus the "KWdG, work in progress" 5 of them were kit-builds (Billing Boats) and 9 are scratch builds. In my active business years there was a rather large pause, due to lack of time for this hobby Nils
  4. Hi Phil, thanks for you your appreciating words. ..... Please do`nt put yourself down in any way and have the strong confedence to start with a fine basic model, and enjoy the achieved results from one build sequence to the next. I can fully second what Patrick and Nigel are saying in view of encouraging yourself whilst you are learning, there is really no reason at all to be demoralised. You have chosen a beautiful hobby. Looking foreward to your first build log.... Nils
  5. Congrats to completion of your C:W: Morgan John, it`s a very nice setup with the imaginable waterline, well done ! Nils
  6. Very nice work Paul, a lovely built hull so far..... Nils
  7. beautiful cross section Maury, very neat and accurate work, Nils
  8. Name for standplate and start of display case the standplate gets two identical nameplates, depending which side will be turned to front later on. The glass display case will be L x W x H , 90 x 26 x 75 cm, The wooden base and the framework will be stained in cherry tone, before the parts are mounted. The ordered glass panes and the reinforcement metal corners I am holding already Nils
  9. Hi Andy, good to see you in management of your shipyard again, and process is being done on the beautiful "Wappen von Hamburg" Nils
  10. Congrats Dan, with the AD you have modeled a fantastic built passenger liner. a real little memorial of a great ship that wo`nt be forgotten Well done !! Nils
  11. A wonderful Model Hendrik, would have liked to see the prior building sequence pics from begin onwards, much fun with the further rigging, it`s a great model you`re working at.... Nils
  12. very nice progress GG, your deck fitting out looks great.... Nils
  13. Robert, beautiful made anchors, platform and swivel-guns Nils
  14. Beautiful Albert, the wooden joinery looks wonderful I find it such a pitty that these intermediate decks and their fitting out can not be seen anymore, once the upper decks hinder the sight into the ship Nils
  15. nice pic Peter, inspection of the coppering job....., no objections Nils
  16. Bob, just lovely, guns, carriages and related rigging are wonderful, that cutter will be a "jewel" Nils
  17. Hi T.O.M., as you have been looking for assistance let me kindly do two suggestions for your search...... one is the beautiful Alaskan "Portland" steamer late 1880, kit of "Bluejacket Models". I know from your early posts that you are not so fond of side wheelers, but this one in silhuoette, tonnage and length and decks comes quite close to the "Islander" and may have been transporting some of those goldrush fortune seekers. It also has two stacks, but they are next to one another..... the other is a real Oldtimer eyecandy model kit, its the "Panderma Ferry" of Turkmodel, appr. 1881 or so... Nils
  18. Hi Clarence, a wonderful model of the "Portland" .. Nils
  19. Hi "The Old Man", welcome to the forum, recommend that after a short introduction of yourself and your aim, you kindly provide your fellow members what exactly you are seeking for...., so maybe we can give better assistance... Side wheelers and steam /sailships are not less "Steamships". I can imagine that you perhaps may want to look at early Hurtig Route coastal steamers... here a little link with names of Norwegian steam ships, perhaps in a second run it can be checked out if there perhaps are kits available https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Steamships_of_Norway Sort out those around turn of the century Nils
  20. Hi Bob, to overcome the fact that the printer ca`nt produce white ink....... I had that need for application with the white lettering on black / resp. red background with the depth marking scales.... When using Excel for doing the depth scales, by normal printing on white paper, I colored the cells (backgrounds) black above the waterline and red beneath. The lettering in white color for both backgrounds. There is also white decal paper available for ink jet printers, but I did`nt try it yet, probably that would work out even better, due to the thinner material Nils
  21. Looks very good Michael, it probably is going to be a super lightweight hull in single planking layer.... Nils
  22. very nice build Daniel, the self made coppering device looks fine ... Nils
  23. Thanks for your wishes and your nice comment Michael, I`m hoping to get the decks, the upper superstructure, etc. under way this year... Am looking very much forward to the next sequences of your Buzzards Bay 14 build A happy new year to you and your family Nils
