  1. Looking really good David, very neat and agree an zoom in on your splice would be good, it looks great.
  2. It is slowly coming back to UK shores, the new 1/24 Spitfire IXc is made in the UK after many years of the kits being made in France then Asia. Humbrol paints have been re-shored for some time, just a shame the quality and longevity of them is so poor (the enamels I am on about). I have some old enamels that are decades old (no exaggeration) and the are fine with a good stir, the new Humbrol paints you are lucky if they last more than two years once opened.
  3. That is dedication to re-scribe all the raised panel lines, but I has paid off, great looking model.
  4. Hi Craig, yeah Airfix only provide Humbrol Colour numbers, simply because they are the same company (both brands belong to Hornby Plc now). So you can see why they promote their own paints, but as Andy says there are plenty of conversion www sites out there that compare the wider international brands and standards like FS etc. I am slowly moving over to the Colourcoats range by Sovereign Paints as the quality of their enamels and colour accuracy is much better than Humbrol imho. I received my batch of Dark Sea grey this week from them. 😁
  5. That bucket is a fine model in its own right, very nice. I hope you do a Nisha some time I will definitely follow you on that build! 😁
  6. What Mike said, truly outstanding craftsmanship! 🤯😱
  7. Oh yes! 😱 You need buckets of sand and cement to fill the gaps in that baby! 😆 Unless you are a huge Jug fan just avoid, especially as they are not cheap kits either...💸
  8. The new breed of 1/24 scale kits are a world away from the "Classic" 1970's ones. I have nearly built the Mossie, but it s a 🐷 to get right with the engines and undercarriages - so it is sitting getting dusty. The Hellcat was a doddle and almost fell together and the Typhoon was somewhere between the two; slightly misaligned parts that needed a good scrape to get rid of the flash and seams. I have the Spitfire IX, but not started it yet, looks more like the Hellcat in quality - I hope! 🤞 Anyway before you change your mind a few pictures and as Ken @Canute mentioned them my 1/24 "Jug" for comparison. (Now that was a 🐷 to build! 😆)
  9. I have built the “Bubble top” 1/24 and have got the “Car door” version in stock in 1/24, beasts of a kit and a bit of a challenge to build. I’d post some pictures up but would be a bit guilty (again!) of thread hijacking….
  10. Another lovely Diana underway, I'll be following along David. 🤓
  11. I’m here Andy, love the “Tiffy”, an overlooked fighter but it evolved into a deadly ground attacker. Agree about the more recent 1/72 Airfix offerings, not the highest spec/detailed but good fun and usually straightforward to build. 😁
  12. Welcome to MSW Jeff!
  13. I'm still not released from DIY duties by the Admiral 🙄, but I have acquired a few bits to pimp up my Buccaneer when I do get the Green light! P.E. Cockpit and seatbelts, Canopy masks and metal refuelling nozzle / pitot tube. Just need to check on paint stocks to make sure I have everything I need.
  14. Great to see progress on “Mars” again, looking forward to seeing more from you and the deck fittings.
  15. Those chests are very nice addition and really well made. “Sailing Trawlers” by Edgar J. March is an excellent reference and a good read, I used it extensively for my “Nisha” build.
  16. Changed the title page, happy if it needs Admin “tweaks” to keep all correct and within forum norms.
  17. We could always turn this thread into a mini “group build” if you would like and the admins don’t object 🤔
  18. I’m away, but also on this weekend they are doing one of their nighttime photo shoots of a few of their exhibits. Usually they roll out the Halifax for these.
  19. Hey I’m hoping we are going to be each other’s Wingmen on this adventure! 😁
  20. Thank you very much for sharing those stories and pictures Terry 😁. Knowing MSW there are probably some ex. RN on here who will know which Naval Air Squadron those Buccaneers belonged to. Those cross decking exercises must have taken a lot of training to achieve 😲
  21. Well Doncaster to Elvington would be a short hop for the Vulcan, but it would be the CAA that’s the problem, imagine the insurance and paperwork! On the plus side Yes Elvington has the runway at nearly two miles (3000m). I truly hope something can be done to save XH558, last I have heard is she is to be dismantled by this June at the latest if they can’t agree funding for staying at Doncaster.
  22. Glad to have on board Mike and all of you. This “Non ship building” bit of MSW is like going to the local Pub and meeting all the “regulars” Really great place to visit, but with exception that the advice here is much better than the “know-it-all” 🥸 who normally props up the end of the bar in most pubs I know! Cheers guys! 🍻
  23. Hi All, I'm losing my memory, something has been bugging me today and it finally dawned that the Yorkshire Air Museum has three Buccaneers! (Greedy I know) 🤓 I wouldn't mind but I did photograph it in 2020! This is XV168 a S.2B and the last one to fly off an aircraft carrier. It's final flight was back to Brough (its place of origin as @shipman has mentioned already) in 1991 - and yes it got to Elvington after that by Road! 😆 Glad to report since I took this picture it is receiving a bit of TLC and should be looking as new soon (there is a Facebook Group the restoration group have if you are interested just search for Buccaneer XV168.) Next job, book into the memory clinic.... 🧠
