  1. Don't you worry : yes, it is a bit of a setback, but there's no structural harm done. Furthermore, be assured : it is the kind of mistakes we all make. And if I do , I'll take a deep breath, go out for a walk, perhaps a good beer, and make it all over again.
  2. Really looking good, Zappto Those electric wires keep on intriguing me.
  3. Hi Snow. Which brand/manufacturor is proposing a French Diana ? I have only knowledge of two Diana's available in a kit version : an English Diana(manufacturor Caldercraft Jotika at scale 1/64 ) and/or a Spanish Diana (manufacturor Occre at scale 1/85 ). If you're into French frigates ( I am ) Lafayette's Hermione seems an interesting option, it appears to be a new (updated) release. I surely wish some of Boudriot's frigates were available in a 1/64 kit version ( La Renommée, La Vénus,... ) but that's another story, I'm afraid.
  4. Hi Paul I feel so obliged and the dust is no problem at all As the expression tells : one picture can tell more than a thousand words This photo will definitely help me on the right track ! It appears I'll have to produce some dust myself, I'm afraid
  5. I meant John, I was a bit confused in my previous post Sincere greetings
  6. Wow, Thanks a lot Paul. I also feel obliged as I'm impressed about your prompt answer and how much information ( the pic ) you have at your immediate disposal. Now it becomes clear as I was wondering how it were possible to manoeuvre wit a fixed helm. Thanks so much and best wishes !
  7. Hi Paul, Thanks for the input and explanation. I feel obliged. So it appears my windlass requires (at least) another hole. Hmm ... some reajustment is to be expected
  8. Hello The 26ft longboat : As mentioned, there's been some trial & error situations but here's my final shot. Regarding it's color scheme, I must admit there's some personal interpretaion involved. Furthermore something is puzzling me : referring to the AOTS-book there is some device that seems to secure the helm (see last pic) . Any ideas about its purpose ? Best wishes for 2018 to you all
  9. Hi Christos, this is coming along nicely. Best wishes for 2018 !
  10. Hi Rob, Very nice work and as it appears, you were very close to disaster. The boxwood definitely adds so much value. Take care and hold on to your resolution.
  11. Thanks for the kind words, Christos Spent some time at our Belgian coast. Still working on the longboat and I must admit I went through the "if you don't like it, stop staring at it and just rip it off" - phase. However, no harm done and I definitely want a good looking longboat.
  12. Nice, clean and crisp work on the gunports Keep up the good work
  13. Wow !!!! Only now I came across this topic : fantacic work May I be so bold to refer to a famous German poet ? in der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister Meaning : you excel to depict less evident ( less romantic ) items Sincere congrats
  14. Hoi Robin, Nice work ! I Hope you did not start treenailing after enjoying such fine Bourgundy & Bordeaux wines
  15. Thanks Jason, Patrick and all the likes. You're all very wellcome Back to the 26 ft longboat : clincker planking on the starboard side is almost done Furthermore : I need to look ahead and think about a display case
  16. Hi, here's the attempt for the binnacle here's where I found the necessary inspiration http://www.steelnavy.com/images/2006May/Fri14jl.JPG So in comparison with the link hereabove, mine is a bit oversized, I'm afraid, but I can live with it Here's the pics part 1 of 2
  17. Wow, it appears I came accross your build " at the eleventh hour" Can I still join ? btw : to Robin and all our Dutch friends ( I can afford to say neighbours ), you have all reason to be proud of your maritme history!
  18. Climate change ? Lucky fur us, so we can enjoy your work a bit longer Treenails : you did a wonderful job but this is also the reason why I'll stick to a 1/64 scale...
  19. Great work indeed, David I wish I could work that fast , how do you cope ?
  20. Hi Jason: Yes, Yes, Binnacle = that's the word. Google Images confirm 100 % When it comes to nautical terms, I sincerely must admit , whenever I'm posting something on the forum, the need to have a translator tool at my disposal. ( be it a book or Interrnet) Thanks a lot for the kind words & the input, Jason. The Binnacle is just another detail that may contribute to bring the model "alive". At least that's my aim.
  21. Intersting remark, Zappto My (wild) guess is between 250 - 300 crew members. Besides, I went through your Friesland buildlog and it brings back fine memories as I build the ship between 1996 and 1999. I gave it to my older brother. I should take some pictures whenever I pay him a visit
  22. Hi Mobbsie, thanks for your kind words, and thanks for all the likes. Little by little I'm moving towards the 26 ft Launch, which I definitely consider as a separate object. At present-however- I'm doing some research about installing this little cupboard ( I have no knowledge about the exact maritime description ) with measurement instruments, compass... Nor have I got a clue about it's exact position, somewhere near the ship's wheel. I guess. I'll take a look in other members builds. Take care
