Hello Stevinne, Welcome to my buildlog. Thank you very much for your kind words and the compliment. It is most appreciated. We are our own worst critics. We always think someone else is doing better. But most important is to enjoy and have fun with the build. You are building the Le Renard at the moment? I encourage you to start a buildlog here. There are a lot people here who are willing to help and advise. And we all learn from eachother. You are a descendant of Cornelis Mey! Dutch explorer, captain, trader and the first governor of the New-netherlands. Impressive. Not only Cape May was named after Cornelius Mey, but I believe also the city of Cape May and Cape May County, both in New Jersey. I know he sailed the Hudson river, but I have never read he was a navigator with Henry Hudson. I'm sure your father will enjoy building building the Half Moon. She is a beautiful little ship and fun to build. Thanks again and take care, Anja

Hello Mathew, That is a very nice pile of Cedar you have there. I don't have any experience with Cedar wood, but maybe another member has an answer for you. You say it's the same Cedar used for anti moth balls. Then you must have the Spanish Cedar. You can find information about the properties of Spanish Cedar here: http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/spanish-cedar/ Good luck and take care, Anja

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
