Thanks, Hamilton. Planking up there is almost done now and they look even better. I can't take credit for the idea...that was Chucks. But Mobbsie did something similar on his Aggie and it's really a nice touch. Should have an update in a day or 3.

Don't know what's technically correct on those gun port ropes, Popeye. Mine have always gone to cleats. When the port is closed it's a small coil over the cleat, when it's open it's a larger coil (more turns). Not a lot of difference really. Someone like John (Jim Ladd) would probably have a definitive answer.

With any luck you'll feel the same 'rush' with the completion of each major step. ENJOY!

John........I had an idea for getting 'texture' in your bricks. If you have a hobby store nearby, they sell a thing called 'Microballoons'. It's a colloidal (very fine) grade of silicon dioxide (sand). It's white and fluffy. We mix it with epoxy to make a workable paste for certain aircraft applications. I was thinking of mixing some in my paint to give it a stone-like texture. Haven't tried it yet. I know it will thicken the paint as you add it so you would need to thin it out quite a bit. Just a thought.

Thanks, Bob. I don't know how others feel about that but I like the thought. You've got the skills to pull it off. I'm going to keep it in mind.

It's apparent you've given this project some serious thought. Best of luck to you. Think I'll be dropping by (the teak deck put me over the edge).

Very neat work. Are you planning on painting the inside of the bulwarks or staying natural?

Don't know if they carry what you need but I've dealt with these folks on some pretty small, quality fasteners: http://www.scalehardware.com/miniature-hex-bolts-c-1

Very nice looking progress there, Mobbsie. Sorry to hear of the difficulties with the serving machine. I think Sjors has one he might rent to you. Thanks for the photo of the mock gun setup. Will come in handy in about a year.

Yes, if it's just a few 'offenders', you are much better off bringing them in line with everyone else. I'm with Alistair on getting the stem and keel on while you can keep everything flat. But remember, we're not looking at your plans to see if that might cause any problems down the road....always keep that in mind. Looks great so far. Get those bulkheads in squarely. As a carpenter you know how important this is. You'll be doing the final fairing once everything is in place and solid. Do they call for any filler blocks or supports between the bulkheads?

Thanks for the advice, Chuck. Always appreciated. Took me a second to understand it but thinking of a stern-on or head-on view makes it clear.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
