you got it I found out something about the railing issue too. dry fitting the decks in the hull, I measured the railings, and they are about 4 mm. I measured the PE from the Hood, and it's about 4.5 mm. the distance between the stanchions though is less.......the PE being closer together. it's not enough of a problem to make me say that I won't use it. so, I'm happy with that. there's not a lot of info on the Revell kit........most folks are building the 1:200 and 1:350 trumpeter kits. I haven't been able to find out much about the Banner kit........seems like a fairly popular kit. when you see this kit, you'll see what I mean. more on it when I start the log. thanks.........and to you all who hit the like button- 1,090 replies

thanks OC.........truth be told though, I did a terrible job with these. I didn't even stiffen them like I've done with others. I'd better practice up ......I do have a project in the closet that is going to need quite a few. that's not for a while yet, but I have one set already cut out {so I'm ahead of the game}. thanks to those who hit the like button

I was a bit lax in posting these pictures last week.......yea, went to the Bahamas again I had been pick'in away at her though....I got the lower jib sail on. I'm not totally pleased with it, but I'm going to carry on and finish the model. I had begun to sew in the pseudo mast hoops........I did two more. I did the last one and then gave each one a dab of white glue to combine the threads together. another pair of cleats were added and the rigging for the main sail was terminated. it was a task enough to keep from snaring the line I already tied off. looking at the jib sail, the best option was to add a bolt rope to it. the blocks were added to rig the sail and up it went. it has a bit of a billow to it...more than the main sail lets on. a number of reasons went through my head, as to why it's doing this..........the stay could have been higher on the mast.......then the block could've been higher........the shape of the jib......perhaps a bit of everything. I then thought it might have some aesthetic value once the model is finished. perhaps I can put some billow in the main sail.......there's room for it. I didn't do anything to stiffen the sails. I've added the blocks for the last two sails, so I can rig them.

you have sawdust under your nails now........can't call ya a newbie anymore these models aren't to be built in a week end.......they take time, and that's the beauty of them. I recall in my younger days, when I could do plastic car and plane models in a week. where was the fun in that? larger scale models took over and that's when I found the Revell 1:96 scale kits....loved them. but I'd look at a wooden kit and shy away, thinking that I could never build one. it's too bad that it had to be in my 50's, that one of them would get thrown in my lap! now I can't get enough of 'em! you've inspired yourself.......I can't wait to see your next one......

hello all........I'm still among the living. sorry the updates are sporadic, but where my head's at {at this point in time} doesn't give me too much incentive to toil at the table. it's just work and stupid stuff......but it's enough to spoil the mood. I'm surprised that the admiral hasn't said something yet......usually she has to drag me away from the tables to do stuff around the house. I expect that she'll make that observation pretty soon. I wish I could get back the fervor I had a few years ago.........when I was finishing one after another.....scratch building hulls with one hand and putting the finishing touches on a kit build with the other. >pause to take Gibbs out for his morning jaunt< I did mess with the Vendetta a little bit last week. when I put the decals on the model, I couldn't recall if she had the depth markers. I found that she did, so I will need to put them on. they are too long for the mid ship and stern, but I noticed that Carl trimmed some off, so the dilemma is solved with that small problem. I added a couple of parts to the model......the last life raft where Carl suggested and the aft binnacle. I also did some touch ups on her..........I see that I need to do a little more. the aft mast was created sometime during this time frame.......needs to have more added to it, and of course paint. I've added a ladder to the fore mast. I will try and make more progress today. I remember when models this size were child's play for me, but my dealings with plastic have dwindled since I started to work with wood. other fragments of time were being spent on getting info for the Revell Arizona. why I'm spending all this time on such a lame kit, is beyond me. from what I've seen so far, Trumpeter and Banner {never heard of this manufacturer} has Revell beat. I found a tutorial for a Trumpeter 1:350 model by Charles Landrum that really put this model to shame! initial parts count in the kit itself, starts it off. anyway, I'll save the rest of my rant when I begin the log......maybe I can be the FIRST, to shed any good info on this particular kit!

the guns look very nice...........hoping I can find blast bags for my Revell Arizona. they really dress them up...sweet!

hope you feel better friend. those particular railing are just that..railings {unless they are separated at the cap rails}. the ones that surround the bow, mid ship and aft bulwarks, are primarily used for hammock roll storage. they have a dual roll as sand bags for small arms fire and shrapnel. your Connie is looking really good so far

you did a great job! you've built a splendid model the color scheme and overall looks is very pleasing to the eye. it's a normal reaction, you know.......we all think we could have done more to our models. but in the end, they are as they are.......we focus on our next one, adding in more, just to say the same thing about it at the finish line you finished your first one......that is a milestone all in itself! I truly hope there is a second project.......and others. congratz on a model well done!

so much to get caught up on! your moving right along.....super nice job on the masts..........the cranes look awesome........and with all those life rafts, I'm sure some of them will be stackable. the armament looks pretty nest too, with the pe add ons. well done....I say!

nice to see that this project is still ongoing......as I recall, you were building the mid ship, at one point in time. is it that section, that went to the landfill? she's gonna be a mammoth model when completed I look forward in seeing more!

the sail {as you call it} is called the conning tower. the periscope, communications, and main hatch are located here. on some subs, some form of armament would be located there as well. I'm sure there will be a deck gun somewhere fore or aft of the conning tower........I'm not sure if there are hatches on the deck, but those you put on are likely missile tubes {not usually that close to the conning tower though}. Piet knows more than I do........I'm sure he'll be along soon and can fill you in better. Kevin could as well. glad to see your on the move again

shouldn't the mast and spar plans be 1/4 to 1 as well? or was this done so the complete diagram of them could be shown on a single sheet?
