    Welcome to the Returnee group which seems to grow everyday. As you have already learned, things from different plastics, paints, adhesives, etc. have changed a lot from what we had in our childhood. It sounds like you have the patience of age so enjoy yourself. Don't be afraid to make a mistake. It's just the learning curve. You can't make a bobo that one of us hasn't already made.     Sometimes I wonder if the designers who design these microscopic parts ever tried to glue them into position. It's bad enough with PE but some plastic parts on Joy-Yard's 1/350 Missouri I'm working on now are so tiny you can barely see them under magnification let alone clean off any flash.     One very excellent Spitfire. You might want to contact your crew chief (forget what the Brits call ground crew, fitters maybe) and tell him to repair your broken aileron cable. Builds of this quality set the standard for the rest of us. Harley

    Very interesting project and informative job on the log. Maybe I misinterpreted an item in your opening. You refer to not being able to fly this plane on one engine because of the counter rotating props. If they shut down the damaged engine which they probably would, the plane should be able to fly unless single engine flight was not possible due to insufficient power. Many planes of that era had little, if any, excess power. Thanks for the info. Harley

    Welcome aboard Rodolfo. You obviously know your way around a work bench so your main learning challenge may be the nautical vocabulary. I think most modelers who work on different types of models will tell you that ships tend to take the longest but us old folks (which you aren't yet) have learned patience which is an important asset for a model ship builder. This is a great site to ask for help no matter how basic the question may be. Enjoy-- Cheers Harley

    Looking really great Popeye. If you are still contemplating painting the inside of the framework on the ball turret you might consider a (IMHO) neat technique that another member here on MSW did to the turret on their TBF Avenger. He masked the glass and then painted the inside color on the outside of the frame. The second coat was the outside color. Result, it looks like you painted the inside the color it should be. I don't remember the Avenger model builder's name. Cheers, Harley

    This log has offered up more, varied information on a plethora of subjects all of which ring a series of bells recounting my very long (70) exposer to model building. Two pages of great stuff in such a short time could be some type of record. I have enjoyed it all. Thanks to all those contributors. The kit manufacturers should have to put a warning label on the boxes describing the possibility of addiction to aftermarket options etc. That would be helpful to those of us in the "___years since I built a model" gang. Common sense--out the window after the first new era kit. This 104 project will serve as an inspiration and guide as to a great approach to model building for new and experienced (returning) modelers should be IMHO. Following closely, Harley

    I'll do the Ms21 or 22, I forget right now. I just built the first of the boat winches. I used my microscope to figure out which way G81 goes on. This is making PE look easy. Going to clean up the assemblies after they are assembled so I have something to hang onto. Frankly I have mixed emotions on this kit so far. Hopefully things will smooth out, their are so many positive parts to it.

    What adhesive are you using plastic to plastic? If you have not put the breakwater on yet, it's miss-identified in the instructions. The manual says G72, it's should read E72. Harley

    Greetings Arid, I started working on the kit a couple of days ago. I'm interested in your opinion on a couple of things. There are not a lot of others sharing the project with us yet. No problems mating the deck to the hull. I found the plastic parts to be soft or supple feeling material compared to other models. Joy-Yard brags about being able to mold tiny pieces and they prove that. I'm working the forward deck area. Those tiny capstans got my attention right away. One must be careful when trimming because of the density of the plastic. What were your impressions? Harley

    UPDATE: As part of my preparation to start my Joy-Yard Missouri project, I learned that the manual has been updated. The update is available online. I have compared the update to the original and have a list of the changes of which I found nine. No guarantee that I caught all the changes but if someone else purchases this kit, my list of changes is available at a small fee (just kidding😊). Be glad to share the info. Cheers, Harley

    EZline is very easy to rig with. Check it out. There are some other commercial lines available Sorry, I can't help you with your two questions. Colors depend on which navy and then what time period, last time the ship was painted, what color scheme was approved, what kind of service etc. You can go crazy trying to get the correct grays and blues. Sometimes it's easier to do some basic research and then pick which ones look good to you.

    Welcome to the club. Your remark about calling that crane complete is the PE/ship model curse. You keep finding things that you can add and everything slows down. I think you are doing very well on your PE. Suggest considering completing subsections including painting. Painting the horizontal and surfaces is usually easier that way. Enjoy--
