  1. I do believe we have a few here who had experience with bone glue but I'm not one of them. I'd suggest opening a topic here and see what answers you might get: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/18-modeling-tools-and-workshop-equipment/ I did a search on bone glue and found these two logs which might help. https://modelshipworld.com/topic/27614-prisoner-of-war-bone-model-c-1800-by-shipmodel-restoration-by-dan-pariser/#comment-794900 https://modelshipworld.com/topic/1749-hmy-royal-caroline-1749-by-tarjack-made-from-bone-m-1-50/
  2. A sad tale with many misteps. It's a great build Dan. Congratulations. And also thanks for filing in the story that too many don't know.
  3. For the brown, see if this will help: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-make-brown-paint
  4. Have a look here: https://www.wood-database.com/pecan/ They do say this about workability but I'd read the whole article on it before deciding: Workability: Difficult to work, with tearout being common during machining operations if cutting edges are not kept sharp; the wood tends to blunt cutting edges. Glues, stains, and finishes well. Responds well to steam bending.
  5. You have not upset my expectations. I'm just enjoying and learning from what you are posting. As for the "new chapter" I was suggesting maybe a new topic for each carving. But then a gain, it's your choice. Yes, I agree that it's frustrating to put in the time to write and then no one reads it. The only answer I have is for you to do what you feel like doing. If you decide writing posts isn't worth it, then don't.
  6. It does look fantastic. I was going to suggest the same thing as Keith but he got here first.
  7. Wonderful builds, both of them. Brought back memories of hanging out at the drag strip far too long ago. I'm reminded of those "roadster" rails with different bodies on them.... the Fiat and some of the early Fords. Good times that are long gone.
  8. Welcome from the southern end of the PNW. By all means, give some thought to a build log. It's the best way to get help and meet other modelers.
  9. Interesting airplane though having the fuel tanks in the cockpit seems bizarre to me.
  10. Welcome to MSW. I moved this to a more appropriate area of the forum.
  11. Or perhaps very very thinned out paint? Tea/coffee are acidic and will destroy cloth eventually.
  12. I'd say go for it. There's two choices... continue this topic with the new figurehead, or start a new one. Your choice.
  13. I'm in also.. Had thoughts back then about buying one, but several of my fellow Marines talked me out of it. In some ways, I'm glad they did.
  14. If it comes down to it, just tell her your business needed the tax write off. I've heard that many business types use this reason.
  15. You raise an interesting question and a good one. I've heard in the past that some companies would scale the model such that parts would fit into a "standard" box they had on hand so they didn't need to pay "retooling costs" for special sized boxes. And then there's the "standard" (so-called) size for hobby shop shelves. These could all be urban myths but I do have to wonder.
  16. Your brass parts look pretty darn good even with the magnification, Pat.
  17. From watching you develop your past kits and also scratch building and also one of Chris's kits, I daresay your first two chapters are most costly chapters. So all in all, I go along with what the others are basically saying.... don't short change yourself. It's a pity you can farm out the cutting work for the first two chapters and maybe speed up the process and number of kits. And no... I'm not talking about have some Chinese Pirate company do the work.
  18. Beautiful work, Craig. Looking forward to the Roadster when you're ready.
  19. While I can't answer your questio, I moved this to the appropriate area where it's more likely to be seen.
