  1. Glenn, Don't regret this. Excellent topic and presentation. BTW, here's another way similar but different from Kurt's and some others. I use a short tall fence over my long short fence. I then set the tall one such that it is about halfway (usually less) down the blade. Kickback is basically a thing that never happens with this. Usually push sticks on sort pieces and fingers on big ones.
  2. Now that's a different way to put the sandpaper on the roller. Looks like a great way.
  3. Two bristles? I vaguely remember seeing brushes with only one. Maybe they don't make those anymore as it's been along time since I was really into plastic.
  4. That works if your bench has enough space behind the saw. I just stand to the side... push the wood in, put my hand under the output side (not above....no, no, no) and shift to push stick when end of the end (uncut end) reaches the saw table. There's probably lots of ways to do this. Someone around here has a small "table" that sits at the back side of their saw.
  5. Thanks for the likes and comments. I've started sorting out the planking requirements and tomorrow is wood ripping day. The plans are for this one are plank on bulkhead and I think they're the only ANCRE plans that are. I don't have the skill set to loft frames and I'm just trying to use my time as best I can.
  6. The angles could be to keep the chest from tipping since the pressure point would be where the rower's butt sat on it. Just a thought as I've seen chairs like that where the back legs are angled out to the rear.
  7. Well done, Glenn. There's nothing wrong, IMO wrong with cutting the length down to wear you're comfortable with it. I've done 24" but really don't like doing it. For one thing I have to move the table the saw is one out from the wall. And yea, it doesn't take much with the long to get the cut off. That's true.. but it's never seemed hard to do to meet the minimum as I'm like a kid in a candy store.
  8. Yes.. I put them also in the first post of this topic. A few weeks ago all the links were working so hopefully they still are.
  9. Looks impressive. I'm always surprised how well card works for models. As for your Dicker Max, we do have an area for none ship models if you wish to do a build log. Here's the link to that area which is in Shore Leave: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/73-non-shipcategorised-builds/
  10. I like that little homemade tool. I have one commercially made but it's huge for models.
  11. If it were a Chevy of that time period, the orange peel would be accurate though out of scale. On the serious side, the car is looking good.
  12. That makes things interesting. Looks like there's a third time period for this ship.
  13. I've been asked recently who are my sources... so here's a list. The market is pretty volatile and if you see a place with the wood you want, buy it, don't wait. As an example, I found some cherry on a hardware store site and bought some, a week later.... all gone and they don't know if they can get any more. There may be some dead links in here as even they change. One not on here is Syren Ship Model only because probably everyone here knows of them. All Righteous Woods Bod Nosen Colonial Hardwoods, Inc. 14. Those two are considered the most accurate though each represents a different time frame. I'd say pick based on time period and/or price and how the model is built. They use different methods. As for Model Space, I have no idea. Is it a re-branded kit or one that DeAgostini designed?
  15. In this case, it probably was my doing. The other monographs I have are for full framing but this one is bulkheads and the stern is show framed. Confused the h*** out of me.
  16. I also follow Chris's lead on this. If there's a question as to being "finished"... some of us PM the builder for a status.
  17. After pounding my head against the wall with the stern, I'm ready to start cutting planks and getting the hull planked. I've decided to just build the "guts" to take the planking and window and line the inside with blackened wood. Following the plans at this scale meant all the supports and ribbing were so flimsy, they'd break just looking at them. Now get the saw adjusted and start cutting swiss pear.
  18. Here's the topic with tons of sources. It's the first pinned topic in this sub-forum. Now do be aware that not all place sell dimenstioned wood and many of the species we use aren't available or are pretty pricey like boxwood. I'm still looking for one particular wood myself and haven't found a supplier either because they don't carry it any more or will only sell in huge railroad tie size chunks.
  19. I'm not sure he would have, Egilman. He was pretty burned out mentally and physically and ill a lot towards the end. Some said his reflexes were off also.
  20. I built a control line version of that back in the '60's. I think i may have a Guillow kit but I not sure. Too much time has pasted. It flew well until for many months until the wings fulled pulling out of a power dive.
  21. They look good, OC. Nice touch with the mud on the trouser legs.
  22. I'm sure the friars will appreciate having the roof. Have a good holiday.
  23. I hope the recovery and healing goes well and you breathe easier.
  24. Welcome back home, Adam.
