  1. Finally, an update. After several tries, I finally got the garboard strakes like I want them. Here's photos of side fore and aft. On to the wales area. I'll touch of the sanding and possibly need to add a bit filler up there. Things got bunged about while doing the garboards.
  2. I"m not liking that Mario. Stay safe yourself and your family and I'll look forward to your return.
  3. Well, I had planned on attending this conference but along came the virus. I'm cursing it even more now after seeing those photos. Just have to wait until next year.
  4. Beautiful work, Grant. That model is almost as complex as putting together the real deal.
  5. Beautiful work and hard to believe it's card. A diorama at some point would really make it pop.
  6. Mark your log as finished and also add finished to the "tags". Both can be done if you go back to the first post in your log and edit it. . Currently, one of the moderators goes through and picks up the finished logs for the index. We hope to have it automated at some point.
  7. Bone models are fascinating. We had a builder who started a scratch log using bone but he never finished. Not sure what happened to him.
  8. Welcome to MSW, Jim. I hope you will start a build log as it's the best way to get help and make friends here.
  9. Welcome to MSW, ThirdCoast. I"m not sure what the third coast is but not knowing your name that's what we'll use.
  10. I haven't been using it actually thickness but just to get rid of the sanding marks from a former (not Chuck) supplier. I had planned on it though but maybe later on this year I'll see what the problem really is as I do have some wood to be thicknessed. I suspect part of it is the rubber insert the sanding sleeve goes one.
  11. So much detail of such tiny parts. And they probably would actually work too.
  12. I've been thinking of it even though the thickness sander I have is seldom used.
  13. There's been a lot of discussion on this. Try searching this sub-forum for "rigging" and "tools". Many of us use surgical type tools as well as things like clothes pins to hold the rigging tight while being secured. The other place to look is here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/17-model-tips-and-tricks-and-making-jigs/
  14. I see you posted that question in the proper forum and you'll have good chance if getting an answer there. Also, use the search feature and search for log. They'll have a ton of info.
  15. Welcome to MSW, Aaron. Feel free to post some of your work, here. We also have sections for build logs, etc.
  16. I remember doing those "float boats" as a kid. Had a lot of fun. The only time you'd use "Finished" in a title is for a build log. As for the signature... top of the page where your name is, there's a little upside down triangle. Click it and pick "Account Settings". The Signature topic is located on the left hand side. Click and you'll find it. Hope this helps.
  17. Looks great, Steven. Just wonderful. I go along with Mark P. maybe trimming the sails?
  18. Basically the MM is the same way as far as adjustment for the Byrnes. However, I've noticed that the tolerances are bit off or maybe it's the rubber axle for the sanding sleeve so the board being sanded ends up with one side being "short" and the other being "long". The only fix I can find is to run the wood through once and flip it over. Alternating back and forth. A PITA though.
  19. The problem I see is look at the two blocks, one at each end. On the right side just past the yard is a vertical line.. that's the end of the yard. The next two parallel lines are for the dimension. I think the yard as is, is spot on or darn close.
  20. I've just now found and wandered into the shop.... The jig alone is a project. Looks like everything is going well, from here. I'll get a seat for this.
  21. I don't know if you have them where you are, but many lawn and garden stores carry square vinyl fence post covers that around 4 to 6 inches square. I've found them ideal for storing wood as they stiff and I can stack them high. I do use the longest ones I can find and cut them half so I have two pieces for storage.
