Jay, Grant Dale made some nice add on's to this saw.. a "fence" for ripping planks without kickback, for one. I'm not sure if it's in his Bomb Vessel Cross-Section or in the tools area.

Rob, For planking techniques, have a look at the pinned topics here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/14-building-framing-planking-and-plating-a-ships-hull-and-deck/ For more, have a look in the article database here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-framing-and-planking-articles.php A good overall reference work (it does have it's issues) that will get you familiar with zu Mondfeld's Historic Ship Models. No techniques as such but does give a general overview of wooden ships in general.

DELFT SHIP
mtaylor replied to NavalArchAngel's topic in CAD and 3D Modelling/Drafting Plans with Software
grsjax, Have look here in the article database: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-plans-and-research.php There's an article on the lines drawings and articles on CAD work. I"m not sure how much the CAD articles will help but there is one at the bottom of the page that might be some help.- 15 replies

Dave also has a good tutorial on doing this by hand in his Alvin Clark log in the Scratch area. The key will be to find the one method that works for you. -

NIce work on the office. Taking charge was a good thing, in my mind. I sympathize with your situation... been there a few times myself... over-worked, under-paid, looking for the next client before being finished with the first. A never ending battle.- 4,151 replies

Ouch... that hurts. As Grant pointed out, you're a member of a very large club, if that's any consolation. If you're lucky, only a one or two lines will need to be cut and replaced. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

That is some tricky joinery on the joists, Jay and they turned out beautifully. And thanks for the info on the mill.

Pete, Have look in the Scratch Area for starters at Jeronimo's Bonhomme Richard. Also Gaetan's logs. I'm not sure, at this moment, which other builds are to that point. French ships had not only the fireplaces but usually at least one oven. On Bello's site, look for "kitchens", "ovens", "stoves". He has about 4 or 5 of these items listed.

Boat kits... hmm... not off the top of my head, Mike. You might as that in the Wooden Kit area.. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/24-wood-ship-model-kits/ Be sure to mention scale and approximate size of the boat(s). Model Expo were selling some plank on bulkhead/frame type boats... 4" long and down, but I don't know if they still carry them.

Pete, As I recall there are a couple of articles in the database http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-furniture-and-deck-fittings.php that might help. Also, just a head's up.... French ships did not use "stoves" as such. They use a "fireplace". Here's a link to one French builder's site: http://www.arsenal-modelist.com/index.php?page=accessories Edit: There's some other sites I have bookmarked but will have to dig through them...

Dave, I hate to say this, but what you said about it "being about money" doesn't surprise me. But yes, wooden ship at a plastic modeler's competition. Maybe tell them it's plastic made to look like wood? But I digress.... your models do deserve awards.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
