Nice job on the spray rail. That's one of those tricky jobs that sometimes can lead to tempers flaring and swearing, especially if you get the alignment wrong, but it looks like you've pulled it off nicely! All the best Patrick

Hi Matti Lovely work on the windlass and other deck furniture. I especially love the way that you did the ship's bell. Very nice. Have a great Year. Cheers Patrick

Hi Greg Thanks! It was deciding how to break the superstructure up into manageable, yet, removable components that was the hardest thing to do, (so far). This was made all the more difficult as I don't have detailed plans, apart from the basic lines drawings that I've downloaded from the net, (and photos), so a lot of guess work has come into play. Not bad, though, I reckon. Have a good'un and thanks once again. PS - my mask is getting a good workout! Cheers Patrick

Hi everyone and many thanks for all of your comments and well wishes for the New Year! Greatly appreciated. I've done some more work on the major components of the superstructure; paying particular attention to how they can be removed easily for viewing. Here are the latest progress shots. Cheers Patrick

Hi Dave She's looking brilliant; what with the cannons, the carvings, the bamboo plankings, all mixed together with lots of hard work and skill. Very nice! After six days of rigging the cannons, I reckon you've earnt a long siesta. Have a great New Year. Cheers Patrick

Hi Mark The hull standing right side up, and looking as good as it does, has put a smile on my face. You must be one very happy chappy now, too!!!! She's looking great. Cheers Patrick

Hi Ben Very nicely done and detailed! With the amount of work you've put into the engine, I'd want to seal it tight inside its own display case for protection and so that people can admire it. If the rest of the ship's going to have the same attention to detail, then she's gonna be a beauty. All the best Patrick

Hi Mehmet You know...it's taken me 30 years for my models to look like yours, but you've been able to do it in a matter of days! Admittedly, my RC boats have been rotting away in the garden shed for these 30 past years. One day I'll take them out and give them some attention. Seriously, though, I'm totally in awe of your weathering techniques. Marvellous. Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
