Hi Jeff Nice! It's great to see that you've been able to get back to the shipyard. I really like the tiny details that you're adding to her. I reckon they're going to add heaps of life to the hull! Cheers and all the best Patrick

Nice work, David! I especially like that curved staircase you've made. That wouldn't have been easy! Cheers Patrick

Hi Phil Nils is a true master, but pls don't forget, that we all started at the same point, with limited knowledge and skills, initially. Pls don't be demoralised. Just give it a go and you'd be amazed at what you can do! Cheers Patrick

Hi Kees Good to hear! Those types of fumes are nasty and well worth avoiding if at all possible. I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming up next from your work bench. All the best! Patrick

Hi Mark Nice work on the hull. She's really coming together beautifully. The nod to Bill Gale on his birthday is also a fitting tribute as the boat's designer. Well done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Kees Thanks. Your comment about the fumes from the polyester reminds me that safety is paramount when using these materials. Hopefully, you're doing it in a well ventilated area? Cheers Patrick

Hi Dan Congratulations Dan, she's a beauty and a true testament to your talents. Undoubtedly, the client would be equally pleased and impressed. The inclusion of the clock and the story of what would transpire in "5 minutes" is a sad, but touching tribute to the lives lost in the tragedy; all of which, makes your model even more special. Well done! Patrick

Hi Leo Looks good to me! Cheers Patrick -
Hi Deon and Pete Yeah!!! I reckon a really tiny scale Hereshoff Buzzards Bay would be magical. There's something really captivating (well, to my mind, anyway), in holding a finely crafted labour of love in the palm of your hand. Deon, if you were keen to give one a go, I'd be the first to join your Build Log. Pete - not sure about the "master" tag, but, hey, I won't complain (LOL)!!! Cheers Patrick

Hi Nenad I reckon that you've got the proportions of the stand "just right" in order to show her off to the maximum. Not too high and not too long. Also, like others have said, the idea of including a box is really nifty, as well. Nicely done! Cheers Patrick- 4,152 replies

Hi Denis Chase and Tripp are going to be the proudest grandkids on the planet when they see what you've done! What better way to introduce the younger generation to our wonderful hobby. Be warned however, because I predict more models will be suddenly appearing for you to work your magic upon. Sorta like the 'ultimate compliment' and a testament to Grandad's skills. Nice job! Cheers Patrick

Hi Nigel Congratulations! She's looking really spiffy and you must be pretty pleased with yourself. In fact, it seems that what you've achieved is more of a work of art, than a mere model, and that's an achievement in its own right. Nicely done. Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
