The obvious solution is debonder, but you would have to use it without letting it wick onto the edge of the plates. Another solution is abrasive (sandpaper) but that will leave a matte finish on the plates.

I believe those lines ending in thimbles were used when hauling cargo on/off board. They would have hooked a block and tackle to them.

I have always felt that for square masted ship models, the time is 1/2 on the woodwork and 1/2 on the rigging. What do you think?

Yes, drill all the way through. I've put the Wendameen aside for a bit, doing a project for Al.

Regarding CA glue, it has a shelf life of 6-12 months at room temperature. You will notice that it starts to take longer to set. While accelerator helps, I find it better to just get a new bottle. Unopened glue will last a long time in the freezer.

What is the purpose with the gold coating? I notice that you use green later in the process. I have purchased the same kit and my plans are to soon start with this project (I just completed my Swampscott dory). I also got the gold paint together with my kit, It looks really nice but what paint color should be used ? Please advice, thank you MrBlueJacket.

Hi,
There is no gold coating. What you see is the raw photo etched pieces. The boats are unfinished castings.

Maybe @MrBlueJacket knows how old this kit is. 🤔
It had to be before circa 1972, when Boucher became BlueJacket.

Over the weekend, I painted and installed the wheel and binnacle. Then I cut 20 pieces of brass rod for the belaying pins.
