Just a teaser to show I have been working on my project. It's far from being done and there are a lot of temp pins holding things together. Once I have all the parts made than I will do the final assembly.post-115-0-57523500-1480391023_thumb.jpg

Steve I like the engine a perfect size for miniature machine work, Are you going to paint it and leave the brass work as a contrast?

Gary, glad you like my engine it's been a interesting build so far.

Michael, Some of it will get painted ,some will stay a brass look. Guess when I have It all together I will than decide what gets painted and what gets left alone.

Thanks everyone for the "likes"

Learner a separate build log for the engine would be a lesson in what not to do. So many things did not go the way they should but I am still glad I foraged ahead and built it.

John, Thanks for stopping by I have been watching your tug as well, great job.

Hello Steve,

I keep looking at your terrific engine and wondering what the base, frame uprights and top are made from. They really do look like cast iron - straight from the sand molds. Polymer clay?

Gary, I used Cerro Cast  A low temp alloy in vulcanized rubber molds. Cleaned up with files and sandblasted. Finished with black india ink. You can see more on posts 38-40.

Glad you like my little engine.

Hey Steve,

Sorry, I should have gone back and reviewed your log before asking that question.  Don't know how I missed that.  Anyway, it looks to be a very interesting process and the results are great. Thanks, I want to try it myself.

Looks great, you are going to need a small dental mirror to show the details on the inside of the engine compartment.

Well now that summer is winding down I have had the chance to get back in the ship yard. Not a lot to show but did get the boat davits installed with their release handles and limit straps. They will still need to be rigged with boat tackles and davit stays ( term? ) Still plenty to do.
