HMS Tiger 1747 by Siggi52 - 1:48 - 60 gun ship from NMM plans

Recommended Posts

Hello,

another step forward is done. Most of that what I have build here, you would't see afterwards. :( So I held it simple.

After a lot of brainstorming, I decided to build now the windows and working forward.

Lovely work! I love the white finish. I will do this with my Portland model as well.

Current Builds: HMS Winchelsea 1764 1:48 - 5th rate 32 gun frigate (on hold for now)

Hello,

a small update. The carpenters where busy and build the window frames. But before we could install them, we have to build the next floor for the galleries. So, it may take some time before I'm back here.

Why do fall small objects alway to the wrong side, or turn in the opposite direction you want to turn them   That was not my day.

Why, Siggi? Basic law of the universe:

I never had a piece of toast

Half as long as it was wide.

When it landed on the floor

'Twas always on the buttered side.

Lovely frames for those lights.

Your window framing is splendid, Siggi.  Looking at the stern drawing, it is a curious thing that the central light of the upper tier is slightly wider than the light beneath it.  Consequently, the flanking pilasters of this center light are out of alignment with the ones drawn beneath it.  It seems deliberate, as drawn, but unusual in consideration of the underlying framing.  What are your thoughts on this?

We are all works in progress, all of the time.

Hello, and many thanks for all the likes and comments.

Mark and Greg, that are I think double doors. Here the 60 gunner ca 1745 and the Yarmouth 1748

Bildschirmfoto2023-10-21um09_34_58.jpg.1d2f514b10ccbbd5ce7bcdfc382af378.jpg

And here the draught for the York 1753 and Medway 1755

and the 1745 establishment. There was there the quarter for the officers, not the captain.

Hello,

the great moment has come, the window frames are glued on. Also the toilets for the officers are installed and I changed the aft part of the quarter deck. So I hope that the captain could pass here later to the galleries, without difficulty.

Amazing work Siggi!

Where did you find evidence of the toilets on the lower quarter gallery? I have not had any luck with the Portland class drawings. I may adopt your toilet configuration for my Portland.

Hello JJ,

yes, about this theme is nothing in the official draught drawn or somewhere written. But at pictures of the Victory or Tricomarlee you can see this. In Lavery's book about the Bellona he draw the seat of ease also in this way. There is also a booklet Those Vulgar Tubes, by Joe J. Simmons III. ISBN-10 0-89096-788-1.

I hope I could help.

Regards,

Siggi

Thank you Siggi, this is helpful in my design. I will place a toilet in the lower QG.

Hello,

after a short pause at the shipyard, we managed to fit in the quarter pieces. It's not all done till now, but we are on the way.

Hello and many thanks for all the likes.

Today I set in the floors for the quarter galleries. Now all has a lot more stability. The next complicated task would be to build the frames for the windows here.

My way to make sure that the quarter pieces are at the same angle

That's a simple and accurate way of controlling the angles. Very clever Siggi 🙂

Happy modelling!

Hello

and many thanks for your kind comments and likes.

JJ, it may look easy. But believe me, it was't. Today my garden took my attention, but with the window frames I'm on a good way.

Siggi

Hello,

today I worked on the window frames. First to fit them in and second to determine the position of the windows. I changed the arrangement after I had a look at the first pictures I took. But now I think it is ok.

excellent work Siggi,

how did you do the "eyebrow" over the rectangular window?

Wood carving or resin casting?
