Hi Erik,

Total cost to date (chapters one through to four) including shipping is $1938.58 nzd.

Keep in mind this has been spread out over nearly a year.  I find Chuck’s shipping prices very reasonable and please remember whatever you buy from Chuck is of the very highest quality and backed up by service second to none.

I’m continually impressed whenever I check in on you build Reg. That’s money well spent in your expert hands and you are also answering questions I’ve been wondering about like the fruitwood gel. Eagerly awaiting more.

Slow progress to date, the port side quarter gallery and frieze installed.

The mouldings are not as per Chuck, the making of the scrapers for them had me beat after many, many attempts so I decided to go with the A.L. scrapers I had

As Mr Sinatra said "I did it my way" whilst trying to keep the ship in the spirit of this fine prototype.

The roof and lady in the corner are only sitting there as are the windows, I consider them too delicate to permanently attach at this stage.

And so onto the starboard side.

Looking at my last post I see it was on the 21 November 2020, time flys:wacko:

Most of the intervening months were spent remodelling the garden.  What started as a small deck build mushroomed into a total revamp of the outdoor areas.

Build on Winnie has been slow but productive.

I made the decision early on to limit the amount of painting, relying instead on using different timbers to highlight the beauty of Chucks design. Timber varieties would be limited to AYC, Cherry, Boxwood and Kauri.

The photos show how progress has been.

Now its onto the hair brackets.

Thanks Timmo, always good to hear from “them up North”😁

My latest offering are photos of the hair brackets just finished today.

Not as difficult as I thought they may be, Chucks instructions are easy to follow.

Eagerly awaiting the parts for chapter seven.

While waiting for Chapter Seven parts to arrive I took the opportunity to mount the cannon using a method borrowed from C. Nepean Longridge’s book “THE ANATOMY OF NELSONS SHIPS”.
This was achieved  By drilling a .8mm hole through both carriage cheeks , rear axle and deck, then by inserting .8mm brass pins into these holes the carriages are held firmly in place with the advantage that they can be removed should the need arise.
Having purchased the blocks from Chuck some time ago I decided to have a go at rigging the cannon.
First off was to make some rope, 1mm for the breaching and .4mm for stropping plus the purchase for hauling the cannon into the firing position.
Next up a jig was made to strop the single block, form a becket at one end and attach a hook at the other.
The double block was stropped with its hook on the same jig.

I chose to use this configuration after coming across the drawing in Doctor Longridge’s book.

Thanks for the likes and encouraging comments from, Chuck, Bob, Fred and “Polly”.

Bob your build was the inspiration in my deciding to rig the cannon👍 Fred, by my reckoning around two hours to rig each gun including making all the sub assemblies and rope, of course if your fingers dont twitch around like mine it could be done quicker🤔

Lovely work rigging the guns. I've ordered rigging rope from Syren today so I hope to make a start soon. I prefer the way you've hung the tackles ropes from hooks on the bulwarks rather than coiling it on the deck (that looks a bit Sunday best to my eyes - not that I know anything about it).

Thanks for the comments, I found (with jittery fingers, poor eyesight etc etc etc) that this part of the build probably took longer than it should.  The “ping factor” being very high🥴🤔

I have seen photos which showed the opes hanging on wooden cleats but found these jut too fiddly to make.
