Hi Sjors,

 

It's getting busy up there in them futtocks mate, not a lot of space left for your futtock shrouds.  

 

Ropes are looking good mate but are your deadeye's supposed to be graduating upwards, I don't know, she's a Spanish ship so perhaps they do?

 

Either way my friend she's looking good.

I haven't said much of late due to too much going on with upcoming holidays, odds and ends that need fixing around the house and new shipyard manager that likes to play fetch..    She's looking super good.  I love the serving and the care you're putting into this ship.  She's a masterpiece.

This is the first time that someone called my build a masterpiece !!!!!!!

And yes, I love to work at her.

Maybe that's the reason that I don't mind to re-do things.

With every new build I want to do things better, more things like serving the ropes where it needs to be served.

With the Aggy I go one step further like tree nailing the deck, rigging the cannons and all that kind of stuff

We will we see where it all ends !

I do have a question about the deadeyes......I thought their purpose was to maintain correct tension on the lines to keep all in balance.  If that is the case, how often in real use would they have been perfectly aligned other than in port - when things could be adjusted to be ship shape?  Just wondering....

I know what you mean....

I think it's just what Grant is saying, these are the little things for the eye that make it looks better.

And this ship is never sailing but static ( or in port )

But it is a tricky job to get them on one line.

Have you tried the dead-eye jig (the one I copied from EdT)? It really makes it easy to get the dead eyes all lined up correctly. A picture is at post #3 on page one of my log:

I've seen and i try it before but that's not working for me.......

Because I have enough space around the mast, I can make them on the table and then place them.

I have to make a little jig so that they are on the same spot.

We all have our own methods I guess.  I just use a stick the width of the space I want and play with the lanyards until the tension is right.

in my process,  I'm having to paint them.......let them dry,  and so on.   it creates such a long process,  that I don't want to wait,  so I'm just doing them by eye.   it seems that my eyes are not as good as they used to be........but I like the way they're coming out....they seem to be more natural.   I would in no way,  knock a person who prefers to have all they're dead eyes and lanyards the same height.....there is great beauty in seeing them all in a row....there is also a lot of time and attention put into them as well.   it does make me wonder though

Grant sent me that link to EdT's jig awhile back, I found it a simple and perfect way to get those deadeyes lined up correctly. I tried the claw thing, and the wire my claw was constructed out of was not strong enough so it did not hold well when tightening the lanyards. The only problem I had with Gran't jig is getting a bit liberal with the drop of CA holding the shroud line on and then having part of the jig stick to the back of the deadeye. A bit of sandpaper, and then running a micro dril bit back through the eyes corrected the problem. The nice thing is that you can do the all the lines at once on a particular shroud.

I try is myself but for me it is not working.

I have find another way.

I give the shroud a black dot where the bottom of the deadeye has to come.

That works for me   

So everyone is looking for a way that works the best for that person.

That's ok if you're not working with black shrouds

When you are working with black shrouds, use a white pencil or a piece of small rope ......

Between work I can do something.

Placed the upper shrouds and tops deadeyes on the mizzen mast.

Make the first ratlines.

I can see that I don't have the " touch " again.

When all the ratlines are there ,maybe I change this one.

All the beginning is difficult......
