Interesting piece of machinery!

Tom, I have used it before - it is also a mini pillar drill. Made from a broken camera tripod.

That's the spirit! Looking forward to seeing how you go about this Keith! The difference between the root and the tip angles suggests fabricating some kind of fancy taper follower for the cross slide, only in the y axis.

Or just warm it up a bit and bend it!

Keith,

some more pictures of Cangarda.

Tried to focus on the metal frame work for the awning (Bimini?).

I have a feeling that she will be departing soon. If there are any other photos you need, especially on board, let me know and I’ll see if I can get back on board, or at least get to the top of the stairs.

Thank you Rick. It is inevitable that I find the very bit of info I need the day after Cangarda departs. The only areas where I am a bit short of info is around the bowsprit - the various deck fittings and the protrusion through the bulwark. I think these were fairly inaccessible when you were aboard due to the covers being on. Also do you know if the roofs of the deckhouses are really white or is this just a protective covering?

The details of the awning supports are very useful thank you.

Rick, that is marvellous. For some reason I hadn't thought that it would be possible to get details of the masts. Information on the masts and rigging is a big black hole in my knowledge and based upon the photos I should be able to do a much better job on both masts. Many thanks.

I had a close look and I think they are custom made gooseneck vents as John said, made by someone who was unable to bend the pipe in the usual way, if you look at the close up you can see a connecting part.
I blocked it out in 3d to illustrate the possible arrangment.
The placement would also suggest this, but if you have a plan showing hull voids/tanks it would confirm it.

I guess you are correct Richard, however I can think of a number of simpler / more elegant / more aesthetic ways of achieving the same objective.

Absolutely but the awning framing isn't elegant nor aesthetic either. With the exception of the railings all the deck metal work looks cheesy.

I am a stickler for accuracy, but even I would be putting in conventional Goosenecks or leaving them off I think.,I think  you can guarantee it would not have been built with those......
Are there any old photos that could show what was there?

Keith, Andy, Richard.

She was built with them. Here is a screenshot from a video dated 2010, only a matter of moths after launch.

Keith - I quite like the awning framework. I think its going to look real nice in polished brass.

Depends what you call a gooseneck I guess.

You have regular ones for accommodation spaces etc. which are indeed just bent pipes, but then there are also types used for tanks etc. which are located on deck. The latter require a sort of non return system that lets air or gas out, but blocks water from coming in. Most of the time this is done using a ball that lays down. Air is then escaping from the top down around the ball. When water comes over deck, the ball floats up, blocking the pipe and keeps the water from entering in the tank. Generally those devices are looking rather big and clumsy.

I'm assuming the ones on Cangarda are an effort to create a better looking one. I believe there is a floater in the small cylinder that blocks the connection between the two pipes when it floats up to the top plate

I may of course be mistaken...

My friend, if anyone can make the awning framing look elegant, it's you. Polished brass in itself will do wonders to improve the looks.

Richard - I thought you might be referring to the original, unfortunately I have found very few photos of the original. Here is all of them. None contain any useful detail on the vents.90.thumb.jpeg.10127959044990c6a5ac3025e32de7b6.jpegScreenshot2023-02-24at13_56_43.thumb.png.d34ca60c7fac2478333f430898bb2196.pngScreenshot2023-02-24at13_38_48.png.9ae0ffe71194c077ec1b6414bfb6f818.pngScreenshot2023-02-24at20_23_58.jpeg.ae2e143976343bde640f28c838cddff7.jpegScreenshot2024-08-30at11_50_52.thumb.png.66f13136c786ea15dd378e4d2224c017.pngScreenshot2024-08-30at11_48_23.png.d882dca2b040bc53668b64eb353b5657.pngScreenshot2024-08-30at11_48_10.png.b5e685bbeb706e68e281fd517961302a.pngScreenshot2024-08-30at11_46_55.png.9d8a65a3a6339256a99acfc76c5c6522.png
