Thank you for your continued response. I hope to post more updates soon. As so often happens Life and Work gets it the way. Mostly work   :D  I hope to post more  progress soon, so as to let the people know at MSW I have not forgotten by build log. I will continue to follow other and post my meager comments in hope that it may help someone. "even though I am very novice to this" .

PS: Thank you for the comments and like. It means very much to me.

Your still way ahead of me on this one. We both need to do a little more. Me more than you of course. LOL

Pete, I know all too well about that evil 4 letter word "Work". It gets in my way at times too, but you are doing a great job and rushing it will only lead to problems. I know all too well about that.

Pete,

I was just looking at the modelwork you have done so far - very nice and tight!  I'm not able to do it that clean.

Work has finally let me get back to my build,  (hopefully it will last).  After cleaning up my workspace, you could not get in the door from the stuff piled in the way, and doing some major cleaning I was able to work on my cross section some.

I finnised the treenailing for what I had installed so far.

post-63-0-95977900-1445799689_thumb.jpg

Making treenails seems to be a good way to get back into things after being gone so long.

After reviewing by prints I am printing out another set. These have layed around so long and been abused the scale was off and stains all over them.

Will also be starting the deck beams over again. The ones I had cut were in the way when a drink was overturned that know one had told me about.

So here is where I am now. Hope to get more done this week and to start posting progress again

While doing some more clean up in my room I came across some extra deck beams that I had already steamed and bent for the camber on the deck.
They were still in good shape so this saved me some time. I had seen on other builds where the decks ere build piece by piece on the model and other where the

deck was built as a unit off the model then installed.   I will try to build mine on the modle piece by piece. My scale is big enough so it should allow me the room to work.

Installed the firts beam. glued and pined it into place. I used a hot glue gun to temporarly place some blocks on the beam so as I would have a place for my clamps to work.

post-63-0-31161500-1445814039_thumb.jpg

I then pulled me som dowels to .040 dia to pin them in place on either side.  These went all the way through the beam and in to the side boards. Dry fitted the dowel then

applied glue, worked it in and removed the excess. This should hold them in place varly well.  (I hope)

Laid out the joints on the beams by clamping the cross member in plase and scribing the edge with a razor knife instead of a pencil for more accurate marking, then used my chisels to remove the material

Even made a short beam for dry fitting the joints, easier to fit between the beams

I have started on the next section of these beams. I have forgotten what they are called?

Started with some rough stock and resized it down with my Byrnes saw and Drum sander

Layed out the patten with some 3M contact spray. (Sprayed only the paper patten and let dry for about 45 seconds to a minute) this way it will come off with out to much trouble with little or no residue

then sawed them out with my scroll saw and sanded to the lines.

Now dry fitting them and marking for my cut joints

Finally got back to the shop for a little bit of work on the lower deck.

Decided to notch all the way through the beam for these parts instead of a half lap. To big of a chance for me to break them off

Started by using a hacksaw blade to notch them to almost full depth

post-63-0-84438600-1451240940_thumb.jpg

Then clamped a backing board so to limit any tear out while using a small chisel to remove most of the material

post-63-0-24105600-1451240954_thumb.jpg

Then used a file to make any final adjustment for the fit

post-63-0-94990200-1451240956_thumb.jpg

Glued and installed clamps, waiting for to dry to start other side

I said earlier that I was going to build the decks on the model, but just for some change and learning new ways to challenge myself, the next deck I will be building as a seperate unit off the model then installing it.

Just to see if i can

That deck framing looks great, Pete.   My money is on that you'll do a great job off ship and then installing it.

Was able to do a small amount this moring after work. Started cutting the smaller beams for the lower deck, I had already sized the stock with my thickness planer to the proper width and height. Use a quick set up to get all 10 pieces correct lenght with no tear out coming out of the saw.\

Pete, When are we going to see more? I have been rubber cementing frame patterns to wood and hope to start cutting them out tomorrow. I will update my log soon. I am really excited about this project and hope I don't neglect my schooner too much. ;)

A question though. How much meat should I leave on the frame parts for fairing? I am working at 1/48th scale. I don't want to leave too much to sand but want enough to fair them well.

The heart is happiest when the head and the hands work together.
