Hello dear friends,

I am touched by your comments, your words and praise mean a lot for me. Thank you very much for your support and comments. That is a great honour for me and also a commitment to make things as best as possible to be worthy of your words.

On Royal Caroline I finished a small staircase and railing in front of the main cabin:

20140204111018-233494-v.jpg

And there are also prepared all flags printed in a laser printer on the thin cloth - batiste (I have no such printer at home, but one of my friends helped me with printing).

The biggest flag is already placed on the flagpole:

All ropes for Royal Caroline will be handmade on rope-walk machine, some ropes are already prepared and I have decided to remake the anchor rope to achieve more realistic result:

Fabulous work Doris  It looks like you are working to the Anatomy of the ship book, same as me.There is a mistake on the drawings as to how the bowsprit is anchored. In the side view it is shown going to a wooden plate that fits between the legs on the foredeck bitts,as the gussets of the anchor bitts falls short. In Plan it shows the gussets much longer  on the anchor bitts and the wooden bowsprit support plate fits between these.I just wondered how you went about this as I don't think you have posted a photo before the foredeck went on.I apologise in advance if you read this with google translater as I should imagine this will make little sense.

Kind Regards Nigel

Well, I know about some mistakes in the book but please could you explain to me or show a pics (it is better for me to see the mistake and the way how to correct it), what you mean? I am afraid, I cannot understand well, my English is not very good.

Doris,  your work is magnificent.  There are a lot of modelers out there who are in awe of your craftmanship.  That is a work of art and beauty worthy of a gallery or a museum.  I would love to see that model at our contest in Manitowoc WI.  It would take peoples choice modelers choice and best of show.

dgbot: Thank you for your kind words, dear David, I am really very honoured reading your post.

Nigel: I am not sure, but maybe you mean this place:

20130405203727-202248-v.jpg

I've made the necessary adjustment on the bow - there was added another bulkhead under the foredeck ( it is not drawn in plans and other parts also have been changed and modified) to achieve better durability and solidity of the hull - the model is mainly made of card and needs larger reinforcement. Did you mean this?

Kind regards

Doris

I think I gonna burn all the wood that I've got and switch to card and clay.......

Amazing, unbelievable, great ,outstanding and......I wish I could express my words into Dutch.

Then the list was coming must longer !!!!!!

I know that you are a teacher but do you have a degree at the University in model ship building ?????????

And do you give summer classes in that ?

If so, I'll be your first student !!!!!!!!!!!

I just keep my mouth shut for the moment and enjoy what I'm seeing !

Hi Doris

Yes I understand what you have done now ;) As you will have seen on my build,I haven't got this compartment as I am working direct to the book. The problem is what should in reality be actually at the end of the bowsprit and how this is fixed. If you follow the book it is just a square block sat on the deck,it just seems wrong and not strong enough.I may consult Janos and see what he came up with. Thanks again and looking forward to more of your fantastic build :)

Kind Regards Nigel

Hi Doris,

I am also interested in how you made the flags. What kind of fabric is it (it looks so realistic at scale), and how did you print these in a laser printer?

Best wishes,

Mark

Dear Sjors,

What can I say? I feel honoured reading your words, they mean a lot for me. I suppose, we would teach each other, cause I would like to learn how to work with wood and build such beautiful wooden models as yours and other people here.  I admire your work a lot.

Well, some information were already written here:

http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/854-royal-caroline-by-doris-card-1749-140/?p=162240

The flags are printed in a laser printer on the thin cloth - batiste - I do not know, if you use this name in English - this cloth is 100% cotton and it is very thin.

It is possible to purchase it here:

http://www.radekshipmodels.cz/en/list-of-kits-and-accessories/accessories---sails_-flag_-cloth-for-sails

I prepared the patterns of flags and because I have no laser printer at home, I asked for help my friend and he printed the flags for me.

It is also possible to order accurate flags for your models in the link above.

I improved the flags using Tamiya spray - semi gloss clear TS-79 and bright red TS-49 to highlight red colour and impregnate the cloth. During drying I shaped the flag into its current form.

Yesterday I have started with guns and I tried to make the first carriage using wood and card. The barrel is casted from metal but I am thinking about making my own from card.

Hi Doris.

Truly excellent work on everything. Nothing is less than 100%

You are outstanding in your class of modeling.

Is it possible to cast the guns using the cast metal one as a master ? Using blended paper and clay with PVA glue.

Have seen this done a long time ago but cannot find where on the net.

Regards Antony.
