She's looking great John! Love seeing all the rigging go up! Been debating with myself whether or not to rig sails when I get to it. 3 voices tell me "NO! Don't even think about it" , but there's still one voice that says "YES! It would be great" . Unfortunately, I almost always go for the underdog in these decisions, despite my "better" sense. Cheers

I think David's talking about plank forming jig's, one each for the port and starboard sides.

A bunch of us have been having the same problems Jay. You'll need to PM Jim Hatch (Administrator) with your I.P. address so he can "Whitelist" you into the system. For some reason, recent changes in the system left it with some bugs. Here's the thread on this: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/10405-sucuri-warning/page-2#entry311988

I see a nice tight fitting planking job Ken. Only we will know the stealers are there, and after sanding and paint, she'll look fine. Cheers

Hate hearing about that Nenad. You have to wonder what goes through the minds of those people in charge. This country has a lot of similarities in that respect. I think the people in charge of government, should be made to live just like the majority of other people. Cheers- 4,152 replies

Matt, I've been looking for a lathe as well, and the one that has peaked my interest the most, is the Rikon Model # 70-100 Mini Lathe. It comes with 16" between centers, completely extendable, with 24" bed extensions available, and infinitely, (meaning you can add multiple extensions). It's well made and comes with a 5 year warranty for $400. Weighs 72 lbs. Cheers

Be careful with that Mark. Federal penalties are stiff. They're liable to give you 9 years in the electric chair.

Thanks Matt! I see a lot of metal fab in my future. Your mortar and the metal-work look awesome man. Heck you could just launch a ball to the water in front of your target, and the resulting tsunami would drown 'em. Cheers

Great looking mini mortars Matt! Can I ask where you're picking up all of the brass stock you've been working with? Cheers

It's going to be a beautifully ornate ship when she's done Dave, and you're doing a bang-up job on her. I do think however, that this is the very part of the build that puts a lot of modelers off from buying the kit, and building her themselves. Probably fear of not getting the carvings right. Cheers

Glad you clarified that Mark. I was worried about the excessive splintering if you were to roll over in your sleep.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
