As enthusiastic as we all might seem Jesse, nobody's in a hurry here. Whatever speed you feel good with, will be great until you're feeling better. Take your time and have fun! Cheers

Just been browsing and ran across this build Vince, and wow, you're doing a fantastic job on her. Beautiful work on your planking, and I know I'm a little late for the party, but if you don't mind, I'll be following along with interest. Cheers

She looks sweet with some teeth in her Tom! From what I've been reading in other builds, the size of the blocks, called for in the plans for the carriages was too big, but yours seem to be the right size, scale-wise. What size did you end up going with? Cheers

I agree with Piet Dennis. The chain-fall looks great there, and having tools for heavy-lifting, and doing repairs, would be standard equipment on a fishing boat, I would think. Sweeet! Cheers

Haven't tried it yet myself either, but in Jim's instruction manual, he mentions it. My trials probably won't begin until late fall or early winter, right after I finally start my build. Getting the "itch" again.

Congrats on the power tool additions Tom! With that rope, have you tried hardening the rope over night? I noticed with Jim's ropewalk and others I've found on the web, that they all put weights on, or tension it, over night to help with unwinding. Cheers

She's looking great Dennis! Have you given any thought to what you were going to use to make those antenna whips with? The ones for the ship-to-shore radio? Not that I want to give you even more work to do. Cheers

I don't tend to talk about problems with me or mine much as we all have our crosses to bear, but as Dave already knows, I've been going through about the same thing with my Admiral. Don't know what it is with this last 8 or 9 months, but it seems a bunch of us here, are in the same boat. (no pun intended) All we can do is pray for the best for ourselves and each other, as do I for everybody here.- 4,152 replies

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
