  1. That sounds like an excellent plan with the acetate. Do you use annealed steel wire for materials? I remember David (Bahamas Diver) mentioning it a while ago and finally found it in a hardware store. I like working with it much more than the brass wire.
  2. Hi Joseph, welcome to our informal Niagara club! We're in direct competition with the Victory guys and Constitution guys for most members. LOL. We're looking forward to seeing you bring this historic ship alive.
  3. Augie, your yards look really nice with the footrope eyebolts installed. I'm looking forward to seeing these secured to their masts.
  4. Hey Larry, the pictures of your progress look great. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Niagara now that you are home.
  5. You've gotten quite a bit accomplished there! She is going to be tall too! Looking good Sjors.
  6. Hey Brian, your gunport framing looks great. That jig looks like it works pretty well too. This was the point in my build when I wished the planking would magically appear on it's own so I could get to building my carronades.
  7. Hey Rich, we can't wait to see some pictures of your progress, it sounds like you've gotten a bit done.
  8. Hey Ken, When I was at this stage I found it easy to drill holes vertically through the walls to put the bars in and then put the roofs on afterwards.
  9. Robert, that is VERY NICE looking. I like the pictures you have up so far. They show the outstanding job you've done on the sheaves. Once you get things installed permanently, we need a picture at waterline level to show off the ends of the catheads. Great work so far!
  10. Robert, do you remember the painter Bob Ross? We always used to say "It's time for your bravery test". I think that would apply to cutting into the bulwarks like you've done. That being said, you have done a fine job of it and the catheads will look fantastic once they are mounted.
  11. Mobbsie, as a proud former Kentuckian, the Kentucky long rifles gave birth to snipers. Things have come a long from then up to when a Navy seal was able to snipe pirates off of a freighter off the Somalian coast.
  12. Mobbsie, LAMO!!! I've only built US and Canadian ships so I have no trouble with joint exercises.
  13. The transom is looking really nice. I hadn't thought of building such an integral piece off of the ship and applying it later. Your results speak for themselves though.
  14. Hey Sjors, that bowsprit looks awesome! She will be ready to sail in no time and then look out! With her and your San Ildefonso you will be a force to be reckoned with; especially if you are adding an Agamemnon to your fleet. I do have one question however.... How do you get a British, French and Spanish ship to work together peacefully in your fleet?
  15. Those yards look really nice Augie. I use my drill as well to taper my yards and masts and haven't been displeased with the results thus far. I do usually start with square stock when I can find it. Your yards are definitely going to accomplish the mission.
  16. Are you going for an "Andy Warhol" effect? LOL. I really enjoy watching your projects come to life.
  17. Bob, your coppering looks first class. It's a shame that you aren't going to be working on her for six weeks though. I hope your trip goes well.
  18. Rich, that Britannia metal doesn't blacken very well at all. In the end, I ended up priming and painting my carronades. For the last coat I sprayed from a further distance than normal and got a nice textured look to them.
  19. I understand that completely. I'm definitely not the best at soldering. I made the little U-shaped brackets for the ends of each rail but didn't for all of the stanchions in between. I was able to get some black card stock and glued that directly to the rails to simulate those brackets. Your rails still look excellent though. That is one of the harder areas on this ship to construct.
  20. This is some great progress! The bowsprit and chain plates look very nice. How did you secure your hammock stanchions to the cap rail?
  21. That's some incredible work Frank. The furled sails and weathering are really setting this build apart from others. Maybe you already mentioned it, but what material are you using for your sails?
