A small update is better than none....

 

(I got the Bow/Stern "Air Recognition Markings" on.

This process worked o.k and I can now see the valur of Gloss Polyurethane as a "Grounding for the Decals.

I also rate the "Micro-Set."

 

The Decals are still drying and I may go over the Bow Decal with "Micro-Sol" later. (It depends on how the Decal dries over the raised Fore Deck areas.

 

I am reasonably happy with my efforts today and am preparing the Stern Hatches for installation hopefully tomorrow.

Initially, I liked the Deck without the Decals but am coming round to the idea that it adds a bit of color. 😀

From my understanding, the "Full Baltic Stripes, (Superstructure), were removed prior to May 21st and the Deck Markings Greyed out just after this as were the Hull Baltic Stripes leaving the Bow/Stern Waves and leaving just the White remnants of the Stripes on the Water Line.

 

I have not done enough research as yet to be 100% accurate.

 

(Joe100 is a superb source of information with respect to Bismarck.)

 

I guess they had many crew to paint things. 😀

BUT, Amati have supplied the kit with the last known iteration before it was sunk. At that time it had no swastikas. They were painted over.

Hi.. I am still confused about her markings, the AOS says it had them blanked out as per the instructions breaking out through the Denmark straights but had the markings and yellow roofs of the main turrets reapplied before the final show down..I can't see how they had time to repaint! 

Just a simple.'thank you' not just the build but all the time spent photographing it and sharing it with us.

The finished model should depict a situation where light winds from the aft port quarter just ceased for a moment (I don't want to show the sails swelled up because I consider  this rather difficult and additionally would mean Bellona couldn't be on an even keel). So gaff and boom are swung to starboard but the sail as well as parts of the rigging are hanging limp.

 

While belaying the various lines I found that although the belaying pins look a bit plump, the holes for them are still  too large and the pins have a tendency to jump out and get lost. On former builds I could push them into the holes with a little force and they were just jammed tight. Diluted glue was necessary here to keep the pins in.

Just joined your 'doesn't quite fit, what the heck!' build log  

You're doing a great job and I am sure those that follow you in building the Cairo will be so grateful you have asked all those questions and can refer to this build in future years so they won't be so frustrated.  I am tempted myself to build her--- something different for the fleet.

Hi Fred. Glad your getting on really well with Cheerful..it was my first scratch build. Chuck's plans and pdf notes are top class...i had to source my wood locally so she is a dark Cheerful lol 

Keep up the super work. Love your tree nailing it's worth the effort.

Thanks for helping, Yes there are upgrades for the Trumpeter 1/200 plastic kit I was wondering as the Amati kit had a serious amount of PE already if they were required? I have looked at a build's on here and I did not spot anyone saying that had purchased them.  Just excited to get ready    

I have it on very good authority that Santa with Cornwall model boats help is getting me the Bismarck for Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄

Are there any additional PE or other bits I should get to supplement it?

looking forward to its completion--- I have this on my Christmas present from Santa list ready for the new year

Just found out a 50-gun 17C ship was actually built in Lydney Forrest of Dean called the 'Forrester'...she saw lots of action... 

That could be a great 'local' build not guess not much world attraction LOL

I have built four ships in the last four years..first full sail , second and third no sails and currently furled sails...so even I can't decide lol 🤣🤣.  Do what you think aesthetically looks good to you for your choice of subject.. 

I used the technical I saw else where on here.. sorry I couldn't remember where..this gives a good nice shallowing towards the yard ends .

I just so love how the hull looks-- so industrial ------Where are you going to display her?>

You can purchase the original plans and the changed plans at the Bristol SS GB site. I ordered digital high-resolution copies and am waiting for a response.
