  1. Welcome Pascual! You chosen a very nice model for your first build. Once you complete the Palma Nova and, if you find that you enjoy the hobby, it will be fine for you to choose something like the Vanguard Fifie or Zulu fishing vessels. The instructions and materials are excellent and there are several very good build logs you can use for reference. My wife and I traveled around Spain for 10 weeks in 2015 and loved it. We traveled from Madrid to Segovia, Toledo, the Pyrenees, Catalonia, Barcelona, Seville, Granada, many Pueblos Blancos and Córdoba. It's a beautiful country with wonderful, friendly people. We hope to go again soon.
  2. Superior craftsmanship! You're creating a real showpiece, Glenn.
  3. Congratulations on completing this beautiful model, HakeZou! I really like these sciabeccos a lot and you did did a wonderful job on this one. Your fleet is really impressive too. I look forward to your next build.
  4. This looks like it would be really difficult to get the frames to fit flush against the planks without any gaps. Did the frames go in nicely without any gaps or did you have to bend them or use pressure to get them to fit well?
  5. You have a wonderful fleet of models, Ekis! I really like the way you stained and finished the wood on many of your models. The warm, rich colors are beautiful. Very nice work!
  6. I first saw this kit a couple of years ago on eBay and really couldn't find it anywhere else. Now it seems that Billing Boats has it back in production. Model Expo had it on a very good sale a few months ago and I almost bought it. I think it is a very interesting and beautiful boat.
  7. I'm really happy to see you are building this wonderful model. I have admired this kit for quite a while. I'll be following along with great interest.
  8. This is shaping up to be a really fine model. Do you find your Proxxon lathe to be easier and more precise to use than the power drill method? What's the longest dowel that the Proxxon will take?
  9. Lots of progress, HakeZou. This is really going to be a fine model when you are finished!
  10. The close up shots always alarmed me as well because it shows everything little thing in such detail including specks of dust but, as you pointed out, the model looks great from a normal viewing distance.
  11. Spectacular work! You may have already covered this but how did you make the glass windows? They look great!
  12. Does this mean the Sphinx will have hull planks that are already spiled to fit correctly?
  13. I love the cherry wood. We have cherry cabinets in our kitchen. I've always thought it is one of our most beautiful types of wood.
  14. Well that's a bummer, Justin. Each of us has to personally make the call as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable when it comes to the our models. I've struggled with this at some point with each model that I've built. Last night I heard Lionel Richie tell a heartbroken contestant on American Idol that, "When you win, you win and when you lose, you learn." I thought that was a very wise statement and a great way to reframe our disappointments. I look forward to continuing to follow your build.
  15. Did you hold the ship in your lap while you chiseled the bulwarks? I like to hold my model in my lap when I'm sanding the hull but chiseling would be tricky!
