Welcome back, Kev. I hope you enjoy being back in the shipyard. I grew up in Elwood many years ago but I've been living in California for over 50 years now. Noblesville was tiny community way back then. My sister lives in Fishers. It's hard for me to believe how much that whole area has changed over the years. Good luck on your build.

She looks fantastic, Tom! I'm currently reading Joshua Slocum's book, "Sailing Alone Around the World," so your model adds some very good visual perspective for me. It's an amazing story of his love for adventure, the sea and his boat and really captures a sense of time and place near the end of the 19th century.

You might want to read through BE's fantastic build of his Zulu model which is very similar to your Fifie. He made some wonderful accessories such as nets and floats etc which really added a lot of realism to his model.

Those figures look great! It's perfectly fine to post vendors names and links to their websites as long as they are not on the MSW list of banned kit manufacturers who pirate kits from the original manufacturers.

It's going well and I'm really enjoying it. I'm focusing on mostly fingerstyle arrangements of Brazilian bossa nova classics...also a few jazz standards and some Beatles. I just can't seem to pull myself away from the guitar at the moment but I will return to the Pen Duick soon.

Hello from Northern California Foothills
BobG replied to bobandlucy's topic in New member Introductions
Welcome Bob. I live in Sacramento and it's always nice to have another fellow northern Californian on board. This is a great forum with lots of experienced modelers who are always willing to lend advice. It's not too late to start a build log for your dory boat. It looks pretty darn good in your photo. -
The sails look great and I like the contrast of the white stitching.

I'm getting caught up on your build log. Fantastic work and the build log is great! The Medway Longboat was my first attempt at rigging and I ended up loving the process. The boat really came alive once the masts and rigging were being added. Your rigging is wonderful. What type of glue are you using to secure the eyes on your ropes and the servings etc?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
