What beautiful works of art, Jim. Always a treat. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting technique using pre-shading, Greg. Looking forward to see how it turns out in this scale.

Scott, the PE is already enhancing your build. Don't rush; make sure you put it where it needs to be. Awaiting your next paint session.

The gloss black is the recommended undercoat/primer for ALCLAD2 lacquer paint for a lot of their metallic paints, if you plan on buffing out the metal paint. If spraying their stainless steel paints, the recommendation is a dark gray gloss.

1/72 ADGZ M35 funkwagen armoured car. FINISHED
Canute replied to Baker's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Nice work, Patrick. Short run kits seem to have a little more than the usual fixes required. You handle them well. Have you seen these Archer transfers: http://www.archertransfers.com/index.html -
Jim, that last aurora picture captures the ones I saw flying over to Scotland once upon a time. Very nice work.

Nice crisp work on the anchors and buoys. The flag looks nicely natural. And your bench looks like my bench, too. Ops normal.

Derek, the parts really need a washing to get any surface dirt off. There are oils on the parts from the casting blocks. And I would lightly prime the metal before painting.

What brand of #11 blades do you use
Canute replied to bigcreekdad's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I switched to surgical blades a while back and I really like them. Got a few handles to keep from swapping the common types. Of the hobby blades, Excel over Xacto, better grade of steel for a bit longer edge. I've taken to stropping all my blades every few cuts to keep a keen edge. -
Mike, well done on both the ship and it's display. And that was a first class dedication to Joel. He's definitely missed.

Make sure it says Future on the label. I think in Europe it's called Klir. Like Don says, use the no wax formulas. For some added info, look here: http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Put your paint pots in some warm water before loading your brush. And don't let the paint freeze. Shouldn't have much of a odor issue with the acrylics, so store then in your work-space.

Pledge is the name of the acrylic floor finish once known as Future. If you read the label on one of the bottles, it may say "with Future". At least here in the US. Our armor and aircraft friends have been using it for years, especially as a clear gloss coat before decaling. Dip clear styrene in it to protect the plastic. It can also be used to seal your decals and then do some weathering using various paints. However, if you weather with powders, spray a dull/matte finish beforehand to hold the powders.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
