Hello Mark, It's been a while since I checked in to view your build log, and I see you've been a busy beaver. It's looking good buddy. Tom

Mike, Over and over I read the word precise to describe your workmanship. So true! To my eye there is nothing that doesn't look perfect. On most models you can spot slight imperfections here and there if you look closely, but not on your model. Stunningly beautiful. I second what Mati said about the red hue you achieved. Very nice!

Pandora by marsalv - FINISHED - 1:52

Marsalv, I'm really impressed with the way the head timbers turned out on your Pandora. A-1 job! It's great the way you have combined the natural wood look along side objects that have been painted. They complement one another so well, neither one looking "too strong".... beautifully balanced! Tom -
Ah yes, Sunday morning .... a big mug of coffee, a few donuts, and Glenn's weekly update on Heroine. Life is good. Tom

Frigate Boston by overdale - FINISHED
wyz replied to overdale's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
Dan, the Boston frigate turned out great ..... beautiful workmanship! Those are nice photos of the finished model. Roman merchant vessel, WWI US submarine, and a 1694 British 6th rate? Wow! That's a lot on your plate. I do hope you will be sharing with us their construction in build logs. ;-) No doubt they would attract a strong following. My Stratolounger is greased and I have lots of popcorn and beer for the show. Tom -

Marsalv, you did a beautiful job in forming the head rails. It seems that any task you undertake turns out well. Very impressive! Tom -
HMS Naiad 1797 by albert - FINISHED - 1/48

It's coming along nicely Albert. I love what you're doing on this model. Tom -
Greg, I love the last photo showing the Speedwell sitting on your shop workbench. In no subtle way we are reminded just how small a ship Speedwell was. Even at 1:48 scale it is not a very big model. All your previous pictures lead you believe it is larger. This might be a great subject for those interested in constructing a 1:32 scale model. When the book and plans are released it would be nice to have that scale available for purchase too. ;-) Just something to consider. Tom

Lovely job on the capstan Greg. It turned out great! I have to say it's always nice to get a look at a fellow model builder's shop. ;-) Tom

Alex, Should the Standart be built to the very high standard of the HMS Cumberland, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, this will certainly be a build log worth following. Tom

Altair is coming along REAL NICE Keith! The planking and the nose turned out great. I look forward to seeing more. How do you intend on finishing the planking? It would be a shame to cover up such gorgeous work with paint. Do you plan to leave one side showing that beautiful planking job? As for doing jobs around the house(s), well, I can certainly relate. For the last six months I've been up to my eyeballs in domestic projects, and like you many of them not even in my own home. Count your blessings Keith, at least you get into your shop to work on your model some. I'm so damn busy my HMS Camilla project seems like a distant memory. Tom

Mark, will all those projects going you should have been born an octopus. The Druid project may have slowed a bit but at least you still have a hand in model building. It's good to get a post from you again. Enjoy the summer. Tom

Hand tools only? Those are two mighty nice looking completed models, and proof to all that fancy power tools and special jigs aren't necessary to produce works of art. They are beautiful. The schooner Altair is progressing nicely too. On a vessel with such pretty lines you are doing a fantastic job on the planking. I love your work. Tom

The Boston is coming along nicely Dan. It's beautiful! After all that ratline work I bet it does feel good to get into the other rigging. I look forward to the day this baby is completed. Tom -
Druxey is right ..... it is a fix. In this world some fools shoot drugs in their veins, but here in the MSW build logs we have Glenn's weekly post. Many of us would be jonesing without it. I too REALLY look forward to it. Sorry, I'm hooked! It's just such incredibly nice workmanship. I'm in total awe of his skills. How can you not get a high watching this build progress? Tom

It's really nice Greg. I love following this build with its beautifully clean joinery. It would be nice to see some full hull photos of Speedwell. ;-) Tom

No surprise.... just another gorgeous model from Dan Vadas. What a nice complement to the rigged model of Vulture. The two together will be double enjoyment for all viewers. What project is next for you Dan? Tom

Glenn, How many times can I complement you on your exquisite workmanship without repeating myself over and over. My thesaurus has run dry of new words to describe the high quality of your work. Awesome! Tom

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
