Dan you are a genius. All that work done in a van and no power tools. You are an inspiration to me. When I moved in with my sister I had to leave all my power tools at home. David B

I like the way you did it a work of art and an inspiration. I brought the kit with me and hope to build it. But no painting or airbrushing my sister would not like it. You are good. David B

For weathering you can do what is called the dry brush method but practice first. Up at Manitowoc I have seen many a weathering job with this method. But the biggest secret to success is less is more. David B

bench grinder and do you really need one
dgbot replied to garyshipwright's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I have a small bench grinder for shaping my tool bits. For basic sharpening I will use my Delta belt/disc sander. For wood turning I use my Delta and then clean up with a stone and a buffer with my Foredom. David B -
Canned air will work but you have to be careful og the can freezing up on you. Several years ago I was repaing a hull for a client and the chugged out a mess and I had to redo the entire hull. That is when I bought a compressor. Keep the cans in a pan of luke warm water and this will help stop it. I know people who use innertubes. Or take a tank to a gas station and fill it. Just make sure you have a good regulator with a water trap. David B

Nice way to put a complex part together. Break it down into several pieces and then fitting them together. Bravo! David B

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
