  1. I just finished going through your log and enjoyed the whole thing. I also learned quite a bit at the same time. You did a splendid job. David B
  2. Richard, have you tried a stained glass supplier? They work with copper strip all the time. David B
  3. That is the problem learning then understanding what is going on. Unfortunately most of the time it is way over my head. David B
  4. I came across your log late. Nice work, I am learning a lot from your build. David B
  5. I can sympathize with your troubles. I still remember when my little sister passe away. I also earned some extra coin doing grunt work on a renovation. Doing drywall and making it look good is not for the faint of heart or back. David B
  6. I found that this is the best way to learn is trial and error. At one of my club meetings I gave a hands on demo on silver soldering to some members who requested it. I was worried because I am no expert. But the demo went smoothly and one of the members was thrilled that he was able to do the job with my instruction. Practice makes perfect. If I had a dollar for every time a botched a job and had to start over I could have retired long ago. David B
  7. On the Preac the blade is thin. As result I was careless and cut my finger. A fine slice and I learned about using a push stick or block even on something as small as a 3 inch blade. You can do some damage to yourself. End result on both the Preac and the Byrnes saw I tend to use push blocks. David B
  8. I am glad I found this log. I have always been fascinated by dioramas. Sounds like fun. David B
  9. Sounds like uneven pressure on the piece being cut plus using a slitting blade you have to be consistent with the feed rate so the blade does not warp or shift on you. I am using a Preac all the time and this is what I found out with slotting blades. They were designed for cutting metal and are very thin. David Warner of Warner Woods gave a demo on sharpening his slotting blades and this helped keep everything running smooh also helped with the accuracy of the cut as well. David B
  10. I can sympathize. When my lease expired the landlord refused to renew it. His reason was financial. He was going to remodel the entire building into deluxe condos. The area was becoming gentrified and he was going to cash in. It was not fun looking for a new place to live. David B
  11. Keep up the good work Medic. On your second planking you will be using thinner material so it will be a little easier. Apply what you have learned from the first planking and you should have no problems. If you can get your hands on a couple of books on planking that will help to make things easier. David B
  12. At one of our meetings we had a member give a demonstration on casting using a low temp pewter. He used a match to melt the ingot. On larger pieces he used a small propane torch. it was a very learning experience. David B
  13. I will be watching and learning. Eventually I might have to do some casting myself don the road. David B
  14. I have a rather large library of books, So when I go to a conference or book store I might get a duplicate. As most of you know books pertaining to our hobby can get a little expensive. Several years ago a friend told me about the website above. I checked it out and signed up. They have several types of collecting software but the one of interest is Book Collector, I found it easy to use. on a pc or mac. just punch in the ISBN and you will get all the info you need on the book. It will then be stored and cataloged. You can sort it or print it out. It finally came out for Android and I now have it on my phone. Instead of punching in the number I use the camera and scan it. This software I think is a useful tool for those who want to keep track of their collection and avoid buying a duplicate. David B
  15. Do not worry amigo. I have faith in your skills. The end result will probably be a masterpiece. Hope you feel better soon. David B
  16. This is definitely a strange build. I am fascinated with it and the way you are doing it. David B
