  2. My package arrived today. The book is a nice size and and easy to read for those with bad eyes. There are several tables giving sizez and dimensions along with plans and diagrams. To me this is a keeper. I will enjoy this book when I go back to Iowa City. From what I have seen this is a must for anyone who want to build a Swan class vessel either kit or scratch. David B

  8. Many years ago at N.R.G. Conference one of the directors has a good argument with another member on certain topic. They both told the same thing over a beer. Nothing like asking a known question to get a new view on the facts in history. In this case if memory serves me was on how much did the US Navy gain from French shipbuilding practices during the war of 1812 or was pure Yankee invention. Stir the pot every now then and you will find something else in it, David B
  9. Thanks Dan. One of the things I have learned is you do not need a lot. Plus rubber cement can be used for super large pieces. David B
  10. Thanks Dan, like I said my German is not that good. This was gift from the clubs in Chicago and I want to do it justice. I will probably be begging for help on detail down the road to enhance it. I already picked up some raw umber and plan on getting some black watercolor paint as well. Hobby Lobby has what I am looking for. Question what kind if stock is this paper? David B

  14. I spent 30 min cutting and trimming a piece last night. It dropped from my tweezers. It took a minimag and 2 hrs later to find it. Instead of being by my work table it landed near the sofa by the basement door. David B
  15. Scott, that is why I would have made one from something else. A week at the funny farm is not what I like. David B
  16. A modeler I know in WI uses cigarette paper for most of his builds and has gotten in trouble for borrowing his wifes nylons and taking some thread out og them. David B
  17. The next piece of business was the roofs of the for and aft cabins. Basically cut them out and put in the plugs for the holds. This was straight forward just keep a steady hand and a sharp knife. The holds were put together by folding them and adding a piece of paper to the back to aid in the glue up. Then everything was glued together David B
