Either boiled like rubber or so old and hard that one mouthful would take an hour to chew and swallow, if it was not rotten to begin with. David B

new clear product!! WoW
dgbot replied to leroy's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
As for a finish it is what you want to have. I usually go with the vessel. A nice Chris Craft or such dream machine gloss. A naval vessel fresh out of the yard gloss. A warship or merchant vessel out in the sea flat. It all depends on what I am looking for. David B -

My package arrived today. The book is a nice size and and easy to read for those with bad eyes. There are several tables giving sizez and dimensions along with plans and diagrams. To me this is a keeper. I will enjoy this book when I go back to Iowa City. From what I have seen this is a must for anyone who want to build a Swan class vessel either kit or scratch. David B

Many years ago at N.R.G. Conference one of the directors has a good argument with another member on certain topic. They both told the same thing over a beer. Nothing like asking a known question to get a new view on the facts in history. In this case if memory serves me was on how much did the US Navy gain from French shipbuilding practices during the war of 1812 or was pure Yankee invention. Stir the pot every now then and you will find something else in it, David B

Thanks Dan. One of the things I have learned is you do not need a lot. Plus rubber cement can be used for super large pieces. David B

Thanks Dan, like I said my German is not that good. This was gift from the clubs in Chicago and I want to do it justice. I will probably be begging for help on detail down the road to enhance it. I already picked up some raw umber and plan on getting some black watercolor paint as well. Hobby Lobby has what I am looking for. Question what kind if stock is this paper? David B

You are an artist Danny. However I am not sure of those seats. I could possibly get a splinter or two if the weather was a little rough. David B

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
