  1. I have to agree with you on that. I could build straight from the book at that scale but it never easy to bring everything into alignment. And getting the plans and reducing them is just as bad and more expensive. What do the guys do who do not have the room? David B
  2. Nicely done Steve. What size are you starting out with your drill bit. I usually work with a 79 then work around it. Some cases I would use a 83. That is for a masochist though. David B
  3. Jan, If I can give you some advice before you go any further. The warpage in the stern could proabably be corrected with a great deal of work. However after you finsh this model it will come back to haunt down the road. I speak from hard experience and going to shows. As for your deck planking you could try a wood bleach to tone and grey it out. Make up some test strips first. I am not familiar with the Billings Kit. If it comes with a second plank for the hull just take a small nail punch to the brads that you have in. You can also use a wood filler on the hull if single planked and once painted it will look great. Best of luck on your build and do not be afraid to ask for help. Also check out the forums this may help you out as well. David B
  4. All the rigging would be applied. When the wind was right the sails had to be ready in a matter of minutes. Once unfurled and let out they were moving. David B
  5. My question would be where can these foils be purchased? David B
  6. Ken, your Rattlesnake is coming along nicely. Your deck planking is how do I put it smooth. As for you sanding boot have you tried double sided tape or carpet tape? David B
  7. For me it is a fold away coffee tv table in the corner of the living room. I am getting hooked by now but some the models I would like to try my hand at are a little pricey at the moment or the size is a little on the large size. David B
  8. I have been watching for quie awhile and I saying this log has been a pleasure. I love they way you are doing things and admire the do overs, too many to count. Keep up the good work. David B
  9. You are doing a swell job. I think your running rigging is a little on the light side though I could be wrong. It is still not too late to darken them a little bit. David B
  10. For larger items I use flux or acid brushes. for small I use a sharpened bamboo skewer. For thinned down I use throw away watercolor brushes when they cannot be cleaned anymore. David B
  11. I am not sure but I think one version of the unimats uses alot of plastic. David B
  12. Ulises, have you tried staining? Several members here have experimented with it for giving their decks a weathered look. Minwax makes an aged oak that really adds age to the planking. And it will take a top coat. As for the deck are you going to scrape or sand? David B
  13. Remco, I found your log and devoured it. You really put me to shame with your skill and workmanship. As for redos I have had my fair share over the years. When I first started my Latham I had to remake the hull several times because my mentors at the time pointed out that it was not perfectly symetrical. Then the planking the prop and the rest. If this is all you have to worry about my hat is off to you in awe and respect. And just have patience with Pepples. David B
  14. Your yards are coming along great. They have a neat and uncluttered look about them. David B
  15. I watched the cup race this year and they were really moving. The danger and the thrill are still there but the vessels seem to lack the elegant grace that I always appreciated. Maybe I am just to old and out of date. David B
  16. When people are look at rigging many do not understand the why and the reason for it. Not realizing that much of it was learned through trial and error for the centruries. Your model is a case in point. Once more a nice job. David B
  17. Fantastic work and patience Jack. With all those hole you could be a candidate for sainthood. David B
  18. I have had my Sherline short bed for over 25 yrs. I have found that it paid for itself when I started heavy duty kit bashing and scratch building. From metal turning and cutting to wood it has not steered me wrong. David B
