  1. You did a great job. When I had to make links I would use a drill bit the right diameter. That way my oversized fingers would not get pinched. David B
  2. It is coming together just like your music collection David B
  3. Perhaps it did take awhile but it was a labor of love. Nice job. David B
  4. Toni, I saw a photo of you and your model in the clubs newsletter. When I was talking with Kurt he gave me good description. I wish I could have been there to really get a close up view. Since I have been away your work is getting better and better. David B
  5. Learn something new all the time. The few people I know have that set up use a riser unless I did not get a real close look. David B
  6. That finshes really enhances the beauty of that model. Do you apply it straight or do you cut it down a bit. My experience with varnishes is that some of them are for furniture and a little too thick. David B
  7. When using the rear mounted post you also need the riser for the head stock. The rules for using a cut off tool have not changed. The only difference is instead of cutting from the front you are doing the reverse . While replacing the slide is a start you could still use the milling slide to do the same thing. David B
  8. Looking good. Your bowsprit is nice and the planking on the bow is great. David B
  9. Nils I have complete sympathy. Years ago I spent a week working on a miniture pump. I was doing a final cleaning before blackening and it went ping into the sea of last parts. I found it a month later after I made a duplicate. David B
  10. The museum at Manitowoc has been hosting a show and contest for over 35 years. It has grown from a local show to include models from the entire midwest. Over the years we have had models from Idaho to Arkansas. I have had the pleasure at being at and helping out for quite a few of them. This being the first year I could not attend. Hopefully next year. For many it is a focal point to get together and have a good time swap ideas and techniques and drool over well built models. The museum's mission is the craft and the history of the Great Lakes. It is the repository for all information relating to the Gato Class Submarine as well as Burger Boat. http://www.wisconsinmaritime.org/index.php David B
  11. You are in luck Alan they were on my laptop. I wish I could remember the name. David B
  12. As far as I am concerned you did a fine job ob a difficult model. Your runs are going the lenth of the hull. Conratulations David B
  13. I use MSC all the time. Since I worked next door to their facility I would call it in and drop by after work. David B
  14. You are doing a fantastic job Alan. The making of frames properly is a time consuming task. a coupkle of years ago I saw a cross section of a Great Lakes Schooner at Manitowoc. Needless to say it did very well. I remember one of the modelers asking him about the framing he did. And he said it was an average of one frame per day to get it right. Just do the best that you can and and have fun and enjoyment in a job well done. David B
  15. There is a small lake near Iowa City. If the doctors gave me permission I would love taking her out on it. Envious David B
  16. Great planking job. I have found that on boats of this type it is not easy to get a full run going clear across. Bravo. David B
  17. The skipjack is a nice looking boat and I have always liked the way they look. I will pull up a chair as well. David B
