Frank, glad to see your up and running in the new house. Can’t wait to see your progress. Hopefully you will finish the model so it can be shown if the Guild has a 2022 show. All my best! Tim

A POF kit would be great for the modeling community. Your models teach so much. Just reading what you do are some of the best lessons out there. You and Tom Laurie are some of the best teachers out there. Tim Murphy

You know, I thought that we had a great show. I can not believe that some Jerk would have done this. What a disappointment! I am very sorry that this happened. Tim Murphy

Peter, very good to see your post. Looking forward for your next progress on your ship. Your hull work on Fair America is so clean and crisp. It always amazes me. By the way, what are the paint colors that you used? The colors look so correct for this period ship. Take care, and all my best! Tim Murphy

Frank, this build is the best model that you have ever done, by far! This is better than Vasa and I thought that was great. The build is clean, crisp and neat. The colors are bright and neat. I hope that you can bring this to the Conference, October 2nd! Question? What brand is the red paint? It looks as if it is a good solid color with little transparency. Tim Murphy

Ryland, After seeing your build and Tom's Sail instructions I have started the boat again. The first one was a complete mess! How did you glue the the planks to the frame? The planking looks so good! Tim Murphy

Please, who cares whether this is the correct rig or not! This is a damm fine model that I could never do. I admire Druxey’s skill that is the top of the hobby. Lets not over analyze this model to death. It is a great piece of building! Tim

Gary, the Northeast Ship Model Conference will be held this October 2nd, Saturday 2021 at the Port 'N' Starboard Banquet center, New London,CT. It would be a real treat to see your Stonington Trawler at this show. It is one of the finest models that i have ever seen and should be showed. It you are interested please note the web site address (www.usscmsg.org/nsmc). I hope to see you there. Tim Murphy

It looks very good and modelers will use it for other sail models of this period. It does not look rough! It’s quite presentable. One question, why is it on the main deck? Should it not be on the lower berthing deck?

Sorry, To say the only piece of equipment that I have is Byrnes saw. No drill press or milling machine. The saw was expensive enough. -
Your build shows your skill and how good a kit Chris at Vanguard has made! Bravo Zulu! Tim

Swann Morton chisel blades.
Tim Murphy replied to harlequin's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
The worst blades are E-xato blades. Your lucky if they hold a edge for two cuts. Excel blades are better. I will look and try SM. Thanks for the info! Tim -
I cannot believe the detail that you have done on this ship. It is without question one of the best that I have seen done. You are a great teacher.

Jerry, glad to see your reply. The two club websites would be; USSCMSG.org for the Constition guild. Also, mvsmc.org for the Merrimack (Newburyport) club. Both web sites may be of benefit for you. Also, try the shipmodelsocietyofnewjersey.org. They have a very good web site and they are worth taking a look at. Best of luck Tim Murphy

Glad to see you have joined MSW. We are a bunch of people who like Ships of all types. You can learn quite a bit by roaming the branches of this site. It seems that your in the Boston Area? Have you heard about the Constition Guild or the Merrimack Ship Model Club? You have a group of ship model guy’s who can teach you and also give advice. If you are interested I can send you the E- mail address of these two clubs so you could check them out. Good luck with your builds! Tim Murphy

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
